Mystical Park Stud

Home of Small/Little Horses

Welcome to Mystical Park we are located near the historic town of Gulgong and about 30 minutes from Mudgee in the Central West of New South Wales.  We are about 3 1/2 hours west of Sydney.

MP is a family affair and run by Darrell & Nicola Barnes and our 4 children - Brandon, Rhiannon, Samantha and Aiden.  Our children are very hands on and help out in all manner of things.

Our introduction to miniature horses began when we purchased Kismet Misty from Jackafella Stud for our daughter Samantha.  Sammy was nearly 2 at the time and we wanted her to have a horse that was more suited to a young child, one that she could handle and grow with and Misty's size and calm temperament were perfect for us.  Misty turned out to be in foal to a small chestnut & white pinto and presented us with the most gorgeous palomino and white filly we named Mystical Park Rosebud.

Between Misty and Rosebud it didn't take us long to realize we loved these wonderful little horses and as the catch cry of mini owners the world over "they are addicitve and you can't stop at one" it became true for us too.  We soon had a small sized herd of these lovely miniatures and decided to seriously get involved with our own breeding program.  Our aim is to breed quality Small Horses and Little Horses with correct conformation, horse type and with lovely temperaments.

Mini's have the distinction of being one bred that accepts "all" colours and our goal is to concentrate on the appaloosa's, pinto's and pintaloosa's without sacrificing conformation, quality or type.

A miniature horse of any size should lend the appearance of it's full-sized counterpart in a miniaturized version of the particular horse that the animal most resembles, whether it be a quarter horse, Arabian, or thoroughbred type horse.  There is generally thought of two "types" being the Quarter horse and the Arab type, although other breed representation's are slowly entering the mini world.  A miniature horse should be well proportioned with a level topline,  and straight and sound legs.

Alot of people ask why breed minis - well you can do anything with a miniature horse that you can do with a big horse - such as show, performance, harness and even riding for small children.  We are breeding the larger type mini's with the aim of them being young childrens mounts/best friends, and for harness and show.

We are still a young stud and have alot to learn but have found the "miniature" world to be full of helpful and friendly people. We are always grateful to those that have helped and are helping us along this wonderful journey with our horses.

The name Mystical Park came about to honour Kismet Misty our first miniature as a way of thanking her for introducing us to these lovely horses.

We hope you enjoy your visit and please feel free to sign the guestbook.
