Unofficial Myspace Toolbar

A Firefox 3 toolbar for the Myspace community

I downloaded the extension, but Firefox did not recognize it.

Open Firefox. Choose File -> Open File, and choose the extension file. Click install and restart your browser.

When I tried to install, a yellow bar appeared instead (Firefox blocked it)

In order to fix this problem, you need to add a website to your "Allowed Sites" for software installation. Here's how:

First, try to download the toolbar.

When the notifcation above appears, click Edit Options.

Then, press the Allow button and Close the window.

Now try downloading the toolbar again.

The toolbar appears only at Myspace.com

AutoHide is enabled. This feature hides the toolbar when you are not at Myspace.com.

Note: AutoLogin still functions when the toolbar is hidden.

You can toggle AutoHide by clicking the m button on your status bar.

m - toolbar hides (AutoHide enabled)
m - toolbar stays put (AutoHide disabled)

I installed the extension but nothing showed up!

Did you restart your browser? (Close ALL windows and open a window back up).

Is AutoHide enabled?

The "My Profile" and "My Comments" buttons don't work, but everything else does.

The toolbar needs your correct friend ID. See the question below to reset your friend ID.

How do I reset my friend ID?

On the toolbar, choose Options -> Account Settings. Empty the Friend ID field and hit OK. Now, login to your myspace home page. A pop-up box should alert you that your friend ID has been found.

It seems Firefox Password Manager and the Auto Login feature don't get along. How do I disable the Firefox password manager for myspace.com?

In your browser, go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy tab -> Passwords tab -> View Saved Passwords -> Passwords Saved tab, and remove all sites containing myspace.com. The next time you visit myspace.com and the password manager asks to remember your password, choose Never for this site.

WTF?!?!?! Nothing works!

When does Myspace Toolbar use my login information?

AutoLogin is ONLY enabled at http://login.myspace.com/ and http://home.myspace.com/.

Does Myspace Toolbar send my login information to anyone else?

No.

How are my login credentials stored?

Your email/password are stored unecrypted as preferences under your Mozilla profile. They cannot be encrypted because they must be sent to myspace unencrypted.

In a nutshell, if you use AutoLogin, someone with physical access to your computer could obtian your password from the Mozilla preferences.

If this bothers you, don't use the AutoLogin feature!
