About Cleo's and Cal's relationship: Cleo and Cal were both sent to a private high school. They met when Cleo was a junior and Cal a senior, and they became very close friends very quickly. They often went to movies together, played music together, and went out with other friends just to have fun together. Though they never really thought about donning the official titles of "girlfriend" and "boyfriend", they were dates for their proms and both made the decision to stay in touch when they were separated into college. Cleo and Cal both went to different fancy private colleges, mostly specializing in the fine arts. Cleo went for the visual art; Cal went for music and teaching.
While Cleo was separated from Cal, she realized that she missed him. She loved him. After many conferences and debates, and as soon as she could, Cleo was transferred to Cal's school in Durns. Her emotions were not unfamiliar to Cal- he missed her just as much as she did. Indeed, the two had found love.
But, while Cleo was away from him, Cal was pulled into the wrong social groups. He hung out with those tough guys who drank and did all sorts of drugs, most of which Cal was able to stay away from (here he developed his smoking addiction and bad drinking habits, however). But he made some horrible relationships with some people, ones that would never let him forget what happened between them, and he constantly feared Cleo's safety. He kept their relationship under his hat, and Cleo agreed to keep a low profile as well. Though, it just didn't cut it. Many times Cal and Cleo were caught off guard and beaten to pieces. Fed up with this, Cal left the school without finishing his degree at the horrid school. Cleo followed him, ever faithful.
They were engaged soon after this, found a large, comfortable apartment, and settled down. Of course, they haven't really planned the wedding yet, since they can never find a good date for it. Cal found a well-paying job by a stroke of pure luck. He was hired for a small television station that would turn into Durns' largest and most popular within a year. Thankfully, he had some natural talent as a musicial engineer, so he managed to weasle past not having a degree (though he does plan on finishing it). Cleo works at home in her studio and tends their home. They currently are planning on moving out to the suburbs to get out of the city and buy their own home.
Cleo and Cal get along very well with each other, unlike many people do in their time and day. While Cal is at work during the day (he works six days a week, sometimes all seven), Cleo does the typical housewife routine of keeping their cozy little flat clean, while working on other projects sometimes. The two stay in touch throughout the day, mostly to know when Cal comes home that night. An excellent cook, Cleo makes the meals, always serving dinner right on time when Cal comes home, usually around six. Cal always spends about half an hour with himself before he heads home at a bar, just to get his alone time for the day.
Evenings consist of time for the two to be together. Weekday nights, Cleo and Cal stay at home, working on home projects together or simply enjoying each other's company, some nights more intimate than just cuddling with each other. Friday night is movie night. Both being avid movie-goers, they either go out to eat and see something in the cinema, or they watch films at home. Saturday nights, Cleo and Cal go grocery shopping, and then wander the local mall. Cal just tags along at these times, not a big fan of shopping for anything (stereotypical guy behavior), while Cleo tries to get him to try on new ties and sweaters.
Their life is very routine and that's rarely messed up, but they're both very content living like that. There's always the chance that their normal life is changed a bit to accomidate a late-night party with friends, a holiday, or some family occasion, but Cleo and Cal live a very simple life and love it, and each other, dearly.
Where Cleo and Cal live: The city of Durns is a heavily-populated, run-down city. It's got a huge population, hitting close to twenty million people, which makes it the perfect spot for drug dealers, sex offenders, and other criminals to run amuck. It's not too clean nor organized. Traffic is always a snarl, prices suffer from inflation, and people, generally, are just very unfriendly. Some people call this place the first level of Hell. Why they don't leave? The work. If you've got a well-paying job in this city, you wouldn't even think twice about moving somewhere else to get another. They pay too well to refuse that kind of offer. If you don't have that kind of job, most just can't leave because they have no where else to go or don't have the money to do so. People become trapped here in the pit of purgatory and can never leave until their time has passed.
The couple live on the third story of a large condominium building, smack-dab in the middle of Durns. It's one of the few nice residential places in the city, and the couple managed to score a large, well-fitted flat. Their condo has a mixed living room and kitchen, one bedroom, one bathroom, a private balcony, and a study that they share. Thanks to Cal's job and Cleo's small successes on the way, they are able to afford modern and comfortable furniture, fancy and expensive electronics, and one slick car that suits them well. (However, the car is rarely used- Cal walks to work and they usually can walk or bike to many of the local stores.) They can even afford to royally spoil a pet- one fat, lazy tuxedo cat that loves to interrupt everything that he can.
