Energy Exchange
There has been a lot written about the Energy Exchange in recent years. Many people believe that Reiki only works if it is paid for. Until very recently the fee set for a Master Attunement was $10,000. This fee was set by Hawayo Takata, not Mikao Usui, so it has nothing to do with the origins of Reiki. Mrs Takata set this fee when she brought Reiki to the West because it was her belief that Westerners would only value the energy if they had to pay a high price for it.
In the research that I have done, I can find no mention of Mikao Usui ever charging money for either healing or attunements. In return for passing attunements Usui asked that his students gave their time to help heal people in his clinics.
What you choose to do in return for a Reiki attunement is entirely up to you, but do not feel that you have to pay money for it. It is not true that Reiki does not work if you don’t pay money for it. There are a rapidly growing number of people now who are receiving free Reiki attunements and all of these people are able to channel Reiki and to pass on attunements to others. Many Reiki Masters are happy to pass on attunements for no fee, in return, all they ask is that their students help as many people as they can towards better lives for themselves and those around them.
