I lived and worked in eight English counties before retiring to Suffolk and now travel frequently around the UK with vamera and notebook, renewing memories of some of the places I know well and discovering some delightful hidden surprises.  On these pages are some impressions and photographs from some these trips which include towns and cities, coast and country, architecture, folk customs, etc.

Chesterfield Christmas Market 2007

It Rained on Their Parade

50 years ago, as a rookie press photographer, my captions would probably have said, "rain did not dampen their spirits", but I've grown up since then, and will resist the temptation to repeat it.

Even the church spire was looking a little droopy as the famous 200-stall
Chesterfield Christmas Market was all but deserted yesterday on a day of constant heavy rain, but it
provided opportunities for
a few candid 'snaps' as a record of my weekend
visit recalling my life and times in Derbyshire in
the early 1950s.

I dislike modern pop 'music' but these professional musicians playing classic Rock and Roll brought cheer to a dull day and made me feel 50 years younger.
