This
project was a series of workshops held by my miniature club to teach
technique’ in different disciplines. We all started with a table
kit, Crysnbon Ladderback chair kit, Cookware Set, Plate rack, clock,
spoon rack, spice box, and coat rick. All to be put into a room
box. The idea was to teach the basic skills to assemble and
finish the kits. Then we moved on to the finishing of the room
box. Laying and finishing the floor, basic electrical wiring for
those who wanted to add lights, and wallpapering.
But
my
vision for this project was a little different. Using the same
components I went my own way. I have always wanted to do
something with a Tuscan theme so that’s the way I went. I decided
that this project I would use only stuff I already had in my miniature
stash, I only bought the component kit that everyone else would be
using. The room box was one I picked up a couple years ago on a
clearance table. The window was a gift from my wife that sat on a
shelf for about five years. Everything else was made from
scratch. |
The
table was to have a tile top but I thought the simple design would not
fit into my theme, way too plane. I went on the internet
searching for something that would fit my theme better. I found a
wall mural with wine grapes that I was able to adapt to use on my
top. I found a border tile that worked well with the mural and
printed it out on photo paper. I glued the tile pattern to mat
board then covered it all with three layers of tacky glue letting the
glue dry between each layer. I then used a rotary cutter to score
the grout lines.. A wood quarter round was added to finish
the edge of the top. The top was then attached to the base. |

The
floor tile was
also computer generated. this time I made two copies printed on
card stock. One was glued to the floor and the other I cut out
each tile then glued them over each tile giving a three dimensional
look. After the tiles have dried I covered the tiles with three
coats of Tacky glue

The
walls were given
a stuco effect. I started by painting the walls with craft
paint; actually two coats to begin with. While the second
coat was still wet I stuck small bits of tissue all over the wall
giving it
a rough texture. A third coat was dabbed over the tissue giving
the final wall a stuco look
