I've been fascinated with bubblecars as long as I can remember, and my dream to own one was realised a few years ago, but more on that later.
In the early to mid 1980's I worked for Curry's as a van drivers assistant. Two calls took us to customer homes where there were Isettas. One house was in a village and in the customers garden sat a red Isetta. I can't recall much about it other than there was some rubbish inside and the rear number plate was on the rear parcel shelf. Later I tried on a few occasions to find the house but never could.
The second house was in Flitwick in Bedfordshire. A brown 1959 LHD three wheeler, reg no 454 XMH (Does anyone know if this car still exists?- e mail me at desgriffey@msn.com) stood in front of the house. Subsequent enquires found it to be for sale for £250. Sadly I had neither sufficient space nor funds to support such an aquisition. I used to cycle on my fathers push bike of similar vintage regularly just to look and admire this vehicle.
I remember maybe about three years earlier a red Isetta in a motorcycle shop in Hitchin, Herts. The shop also sold Reliant three wheelers I think.
I eventually did buy an Isetta a few years ago. With two other classic cars to maintain, the Isetta, in a sorry state was never going to be roadworthy. My plan was to stop or slow down any further rust and just have the car as a garden ornament.
