Twentieth Century Drama:A View From The Bridge

In the play "A View From The Bridge" alot of issues are dealt with, no always dealt with in the right way. in the 1950's there was a lot of italian americans discovering life in a new town in the united states. the poor end of the brooklyn bridge where the play is set and the rich side of the bride where all the italian americans wish to live, this is why the play is called "A View From The Bridge" because the is a simble of the hopes and dreams of many of the charactors in the play, especialy catherine.

first of all catherine and eddie are part of happy family and catherine treats eddie with all respect. this is shown by the way that she runs around askin if she can get him a beer and things like that. catherine and Eddie have their own little bond Eddie looks out for her as if she is his own, he seems to be jealous that he can't have catherine, its hard having a 17yr old walking round the house when you are a grown man. he tells her that her apperance is making all the guys look at her in a differant way, he says "Katie, you are walkin' wavy!", this meaning you are walking like you are trying to get all the boys attention, he is obviously jealous when he carrys on to say, "I don't like the looks they're givin' you in the candy store. And with them new high heels on the sidewalk - clack, clack, clack. The heads are turnin' like windmills". when Marco and Rudolfo arive and Catherine begins to fall in love with Rudolfo it begins to kick of with him and Eddie, he trys to undermine the reason that Rudolfo wants to marry say that he's only doing to become an american citizen.

I think that a big moment in the play is when Marco lifts the chair up above Eddies head, this shows that he is fisically stronger than Eddie, in a way showing him not to mess! all the charctors in the play are very respectable people, Eddie starts off as one of these people but he is driven to being a bad person be3cuse he bottled up that he had a problem and tryed to fool himself into thinking he didn't. he brings himself and the really respectable people to the ground, take Marco for instants was driven to stabing Eddie with his own knife which Eddie pulled on him, showing that he was forced to do this action. he did the for his honour and to right a rong.

I think the reason the play is called " A View From the Bridge" is becuse this simbolises many things for the people of brooklyn, many people hope of reaching the top and oing to live in the lovely city instead of stayin the workers quarter on the minimum wage and fighting hard to stay alive and in the country.
