St. Olaf Orchestra string section, 2003-2004
Steven Amundson - conductor
Composer's Notes
"Veturnaetur" is the old Norse holiday of "Winter Nights," the last two
weeks in October. It was a dark time of supernatural events, but also a time for
weddings and celebration. The musical material of this piece is derived from a
four note motive and employs idiomatic string techniques to capture the mood of
this foreboding time of year.
- Matthew
Peterson, class of 2006
