RESCUE RULES

What Rules?  There are no set rules or guidelines when it comes to Equine Rescue "ethics." By "ethics" we mean that set of principles,  moral ideals or  philosophies upon which to base the whole of the your rescue operations. All rescues operate differently in many ways, large and small. Some rescues believe it is OK to sell or "adopt"  their horses outright with no contracts, some believe in "expiring" contracts and others believe it is Ok to breed the rescued animals. Other rescues, particuarly the ones that frequent "meat-market" auction houses and/or work directly with the "kill-buyers," think it is OK to "turn a blind eye" to auction house and feedlot abuse and neglect as long as they can save "some horses." To determine what "ethical" grounds would be most suitable for your rescue, you must first ask yourself, what are your ultimate goals for the animals you rescue? To you want to save them for just a certain, limited amount of time? Is your ultimate goal to save the ones in the most immediate danger, to re-hab them and find them new "forever loving homes" and have done with that one particular horse and move on to the next? As briefly mentioned above, there are rescues that use "expiring" contracts, that is to say, after the adoptee has had the animal for a certain period of time, the adoptee obtains full ownership and the rescue has no further say as to what becomes of the horses.  We DO NOT believe that no contracts or "expiring" contracts are the way to go if you want maximum, extended protection for the rescued horse. We here at QARR  are passionately committed to rescue and want to do it with OPTIMUM protection for the animals, so we  adherence to three simple "Rescue Rules" we have thus far made for ourselves as listed below: We believe these few simple rules make a good foundation for  a well-run, well-thought out, efficient equine rescue. These few rules are set down with the best interest of the animal in mind ONLY.

1. QARR strives to protect our rescued animals for the duration of their lives. This is done through the use of  LIFETIME CONTRACTS. A lifetime contract is one that stays with the animal for its entire life.  These lifetime contracts go with our animals no matter the type of transfer, whether adoption, sale, or gift, or to whom the animal is transfered to, an individual or organization, such as another rescue. There is NO circumstance where an animal will be transfered without a contract in place.

2. QARR will NEVER allow our rescued animals to be BRED, for ANY reason, by anyone, and will require a NO BREEDING clause provision in ALL  our contracts. Heres why:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjzwuY2R9OI

3. QARR will ALWAYS REPORT abuse, neglect and cruelty . We believe that there is NEVER any excuse to turn a "blind-eye" to animal cruelty and neglect. Never..
