~QUARTER-ACRE RESCUE RANCH~

An All Animal Rescue & Equine Advocacy Center

Here are our permanent equine residents, rescued from a starvation case where these two along with three other full sized horse were kept in a filthy small pen with no shelter all winter long and we had some blizzard-like weather. When we went to look at them there was no hay to be found and the bathtub they used for a trough was bone dry. We took the little ones and the other three went to Safe Haven. When we went to pick these two up, there was a round bale in the pen slimey black with mold on the outside. I dont imagine it was much better on the in. The owners were bragging what a "great deal" they got on that round bale, costing them only $20.00. What could I say except "wow, what a bargain!"

Meet Paco the donkey and Little Lightning the mini-horse.

We are always looking for sponsors for our animals and extend an open invitation to anyone who would like to come down and meet them. By appointment only so please, call in advance: (518) 753 - 7791

Paco is 10HH and only 2 1/2 years old, and what a "mush" he is....can you tell? We figger he must have been "imprinted." Here in the pic he is giving me one great big wet kiss....of course, he is expecting a carrot for it in exchange!

And here is his good buddy, "Lightning," said to be a large mini at 9.1HH.

The vet did an initial evaluation on these two little ones and pronounced "no signs of lameness."  Both these little guys are in-tact males (stallions) and there are plans to have them both gelded soon. We are wanting Paco to pack on some pounds and muscle development  before that occurs.

We named the pony "Lightning" for two reasons; first for the lightning bolt on his side as you can see in the pic below, and secondly, because this is one very fast little pony with alot of pep to his strides. He has the cutest little trot but oh my can he gallop too! He and Paco LOVE to play and run and for two stallions they are very gentle with eachother....NO DOUBT who the real boss is of the two, though. Can you guess?

More Permanent Residents: THE CANINES;

Georgie, a Shitz-su / lasha apso mix, approx 5 yrs old. Georgie was and owner surrender who was deemed unadoptable as he has agression issues with his play things and is not to be trusted with small children. Suprisingly, NOT with his food! I hear these type dogs have a low tolerence for abuse and from my own experience with them, I found this to be true. This holds for Georgie and Emma too.

Below: Emma, a 12 yr old Lasha Apso who has been with us for 9 yrs. Emma was also deemed unadoptable as she has the same issues as Georgie. What a wonderful pair they are together and although Emma was "more than a little" jealous when Georgie first came along, they are now best friends.  As you will see in the pic below, Emma will even share her favorite chair with George,.....but NEVER her favorite toys! That is A-Ok with Georgie cause he feels the same way about his toys too. The two of them together when they have their (chew) toy bear careful watching. Emma has a tendency to hide hers all over the house, and watch out anyone or anything gets to near her hiding place.!

Permanent Residents: The felines;

BIG Eyes, xferal, now completely tame. Approx 10-12 yrs old. Big Eyes is a special needs as has to be on predisone for life for stomitis and bartonella. Also, since he has only a few teeth left, we  have to "mush" his food for him.  However, BigEyes has been seen in the neighborhood catching and eating small mice and birds!

Poppa; exferal, now a loving "mush."  When we first learned about Poppa he was hanging out at a trailer park with his wife and three kids. By the time we got to trapping him, the wife had been (unfortunatley) hit by a car and killed. Poppa continued to raise those kids as if he were the momma. He would hunt for them and with them and lick them and protect them like any mother or father would. He was such a good poppa, how do you thik he got his name? LOL Hes approx 8-10 yrs old. Guess ole' Poppa has had enough of the outdoor world, cause now he much prefers it inside and is growing fat and lazy. He likes to hang out by the phone and wait for his girlfriends to call!  He is such a love. Fortunately, he doesnt "fool around" much anymore, not since we got his you-know-what cut off. He could care less about making kitties anymore and we say thank goodness for that! Huh Poppa!

Fritzie; one of the meanest cats you will ever know. He is like a Jekell & Hyde. He is suspicious of everyone but once he gets to know and trust you, he loves attention and to be petted, stroked and brushed. However, you never know when he will strike out after you. He is just so unpredictible....I attribute this in part to his diabetic condition, though I dont know for sure. I do know my dad used to "feel off" when his sugar was acting up (or down) so maybe he cant help it. He is definately a special needs because of his "bad attitute," so much so that a No-kill shelter wanted to put him down!!! LOL Fritzie is still being regulated for his condition and presently gets two shots of insulin daily of 4 units ea; His next appointment for regulation is coming up in august.

Fritzie loves to make himself at home and stretch out on my work-station.....loves attention but also has some trust issues due to previous abuse or neglect on the part of a drunken owner.  Fritzie is definately a "one-person" cat and we have decided to keep him unless we can find a special diabetic cat rescue or that "perfect" experienced person that will take him. Sorry, wish we could but cannot afford to send him out with an endowment. We are struggling to keep up with his medical bills as he has to go back to the vet every few months.

We are not 501(c) but will accept donations given out of the goodness of your heart if your spirit is willing and  you believe in our cause, our commitment and the work we are doing. We have been rescuing for a number of years and have NEVER made a dime. Its NOT about the money with us. Never was and never will be. We gladly go out-of-pocket, but lately, like most small rescues, our pockets have grown thin: we are struggling to survive.

Although we cannot offer any tax-deductions, as a small token of our appreciation we will issue a gift certificate to the doner in the same amount of the contribution for a SHOP HERE SHOP NOW coupon from  our EZWayBay Store; http://www.freewebs.ezwaybay  Check back often as we are always adding new stuff, and if we dont have it we can get it for you. Just ask.

KITTENS FOR ADOPTION

A few weeks ago a neighbor was knocking on our door bearing in his arms three kittens that he found in the woods. Apparently, someone abandoned them at a popular fishing hole thinking someone would find them and take them. That goodness that someone did. There poor babies were barely weaned when we got them. They are now ready for new "forever loving homes."

Two are near identical twins, being cream in color (like a siamese) with orange tips on their ears and tails and orange on their noses. The orange is ringed and striped like a tabbys.  They both have blue eyes but I dont know if they will stay that way.  The other is pitch black with a few white hairs on his chest. They are the cutest things!
