Welcome to Mototi Litscape, the terrain of African Literature. The name of this journal means much to me. It is made up of two words: Mototi and Landscape. I grew up in Mototi, a village in the District of Mazvihwa in Southern Zimbabwe. That small village was my first early experience of Africa; in Mototi I discovered my interest in writing, and my first attempt at fiction was a Shona novel that portrayed characters modelled out of people I knew in Mototi, most family members who appreciated the "fame" that the handwritten novel would bring to them. That was also my first experience with writing/publishing on demand because I had an audience that eagerly waited for the next chapter of the novel. I am talking about my classmates who during breaktime would gather around me to listen to me read the story. Indeed, I felt accomplished. That landscape, Mototi, being my early experience with Africa literature, signifies to me the nurturing power of Africa in everything I attempt to do. My writing, steeply anhored in the continent through the places of Africa I know best is just a microcosm of the diverse experience other African writers can bring. So I invite other writers to share the literature of their 'scapes'. Welcome to Mototi Litscape. Feel at home.
