About Us
Welcome to the Marymount University cheerleading Web page! We are an all-girl squad that cheers for the M.U. men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Marymount’s athletic teams compete in the Capital Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III.

The Marymount cheerleading squad won a Capital Athletic Conference championship in 2003 and also has placed individual cheerleaders in the top 10 at that competition.

For the 2003-04 season, we had 8 girls on the squad; two freshmen, five sophomores and one junior. Four cheerleaders returned from the 2002-03 season.

The squad was re-formed in 1999 after several years in which Marymount did not have a cheerleading program. In 2000-01, the squad completed its first year under Head Coach Jen Botchie.

Squad Roster

Please see the Squad Bios section for current roster, and the Squad History section for past rosters.

Tryouts
Any full-time M.U. student, male or female, with a desire to show their school spirit through this sport are encouraged to try out for cheerleading. Candidates must be in good academic standing and demonstrate leadership, good physical fitness and willingness to commit to a full season of practices, games, competitions and other events.

Prior cheerleading experience is not required. If you have dance or gymnastics experience, any athletic or performance background, or a strong desire to support Marymount's athletic teams, our team may be for you!

Tryout criteria includes:

Responsibilities
We cheer for all home men’s and women’s basketball games as well as all conference and NCAA playoff games. Our games are often doubleheaders and we cheer for BOTH games, which makes for a long afternoon or evening! The squad also performs at school spirit events/pep rallies and competes in the annual Capital Athletic Conference competition and possibly other local competitions. There are also campus appearances and fundraising obligations.

Practices are held two or three evenings a week, depending on the season; times are determined at the start of each semester by the squad members' class schedule. Often our practices are from 9:30-11 p.m.! Additional practices may be scheduled by the coach when needed. Practices include a cardiovascular warmup, stretching routine, conditioning and jump clinic. We then work on new material or review current material as needed.
