Mystery Babylon The Great

MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT

We first begin to read about mystery Babylon, or as some refer, the whore of Babylon in revelation chapter 17. We will need to look at all the information that the book of revelation tells us in regard to this woman. It is most important to compare what the book of revelation says about her to other scripture. I believe the scriptures show us, the whore of Babylon is non other then first century Jerusalem. Before you say no way, ridiculous, remember that the Word of God will interpret itself and we must put away all of our preconceived ideas. The Bible does interpret itself as we will see.

Revelation 17:1

17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:*

Notice that it is the judgment of the great whore that is now going to be shown to John. She sits upon many waters. What does this mean? The answer is found further in the reading.

Revelation 17:15

17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.*

We can see that these are various peoples that the whore sits on. Just as literal Babylon sat upon the waters or the people having literal reign and power over them we now see mystery Babylon having spiritual reign over the people of the earth.

Jeremiah 51:12,13

51:12 Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.

51:13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, [and] the measure of thy covetousness.

17:2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

We will notice in revelation 17:2 that the kings of the earth have committed fornication and have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. Compare this passage with what is said of Jerusalem in Ezekiel 16. We encourage you at this time to read the whole chapter of Ezekiel 16.

Ezekiel 16:2

16:2 Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,

It is Jerusalem that Ezekiel is told to cause to know her abominations. Notice that Jerusalem is referred to as a woman here that has committed abominations. Also as we continue to read through Ezekiel 16 we will notice the similar symbolic language that is used to describe the whore of Babylon.

Ezekiel 16:15, 26, 28, 29, 32

16:15 But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.

16:26 Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger.

16:28 Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.

16:29 Thou hast moreover multiplied thy fornication in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith.

16:32 [But as] a wife that committeth adultery, [which] taketh strangers instead of her husband!

We read also about the abominations of Jerusalem in Ezekiel 23.

Ezekiel 23:11-21

23:11 And when her sister Aholibah saw [this], she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in [her] whoredoms.

23:12 She doted upon the Assyrians [her] neighbours, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men.

23:13 Then I saw that she was defiled, [that] they [took] both one way,

23:14 And [that] she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men portrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion,

23:15 Girded with girdles upon their loins, exceeding in dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity:

23:16 And as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted upon them, and sent messengers unto them into Chaldea.

23:17 And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them.

23:18 So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister.

23:19 Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.

23:20 For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh [is as] the flesh of asses, and whose issue [is like] the issue of horses.

23:21 Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in bruising thy teats by the Egyptians for the paps of thy youth

Who is Aholibah? Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 23:4

23:4 And the names of them [were] Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus [were] their names; Samaria [is] Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.

Notice in these passages that Jerusalem has played the harlot and played the whore with the Egyptians, Assyrians, and from Canann unto Chaldea. Jerusalem was still not satisfied with her whoredoms. These passages parallel that of the whore of Babylon of Revelation 17:2. The whore of Babylon and literal Jerusalem committed fornication with the kings of the earth and the inhabitants thereof. Jerusalem, by being the chosen wife, committed these whoredoms by serving and worshipping other gods.

Exodus 34:14-16

34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name [is] Jealous, [is] a jealous God:

34:15 Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and [one] call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;

34:16 And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.

Ezekiel 6:9

6:9 And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall loathe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.

Various Gentile nations were allowed to overtake Jerusalem in the old testament because of the rebellion of the Jewish people. Each time one of their enemies would conquer them they would begin worshipping their gods and idols. This goes all the way back to the Egyptians, as we just read in Ezekiel 23:21.

We can see that spiritual Babylon made the the earth drunk with her wine. Literal Babylon did the same.

Jeremiah 51:6-8

51:6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this [is] the time of the LORD'S vengeance; he will render unto her a recompense.

51:7 Babylon [hath been] a golden cup in the LORD'S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

51:8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

Literal Babylon had suddenly fallen. Just as we will see about spiritual Babylon, the literal city of Jerusalem.

Revelation 17:4

17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

We can compare this passage to Ezekiel 16:11-13. There again speaking of Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 16:11-13

16:11 I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.

16:12 And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.

16:13 Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment [was of] fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.

Notice the symbolic language in both passages above. These jewels and clothing were certainly not literal. No more was Jerusalem clothed with these ornaments literally then she was a literal barren baby in the open field. The whore of Babylon and Jerusalem were symbolically decked with all these ornaments symbolizing Jerusalem’s chosen status. Jerusalem was God’s chosen city. In Ezekiel 16:4 - 6 it is explained to us the condition that God found Jerusalem in at the beginning, a babe polluted in it‘s own blood cast out into the open field. God pitied Jerusalem and then He blesses her as His chosen wife. God cleaned her up and increased her as we read in Ezekiel 16: 7 - 14. No other people were as blessed as the Jews. Jerusalem was the city where God would dwell. They were the chosen people and Jerusalem was the chosen the city.

Notice as we go farther the name of this woman:

Revelation 17:5

17:5 And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

In Ezekiel 16 we read in verse 15 that Jerusalem playedst the harlot. In verse 16 Jerusalem playest the harlot. In verse 17 Jerusalem committed whoredoms. In verse 20 the Lord speaks of her whoredoms. In verse 22 Jerusalem’s abominations and whoredoms is further spoken of. In verse 25 the Lord speaks of Jerusalem’s whoredoms. In verse 26 the Lord says Jerusalem committed fornication and increased her whoredoms. In verse 28 Jerusalem played the whore and harlot. In verse 29 Jerusalem multiplied her fornication. In verse 30 the Lord says Jerusalem doest the work of an imperious whorish woman. In verse 31 - 34 the Lord says that Jerusalem was worse then a harlot in that she paid and was not paid for her whoredoms. In verse 35 the Lord calls Jerusalem a harlot. In verse 36 the Lord says that Jerusalem’s nakedness was discovered through her whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations. More can be read in Ezekiel chapters 16 and 23, some of which has been quoted earlier. Notice a few other passages.

Isaiah 1:21

1:21 How is the faithful city become an harlot!...

Jeremiah 3:1

3:1 They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

There are many other passages in the old testament that could be quoted. Jerusalem and Israel as a whole served and worshipped other gods and would not give honor to her true husband. She was a harlot. We will stop here believing this to be enough evidence of Jerusalem’s abominations, whoredoms, and harlotry. It would seem obvious that Jerusalem fits the description of the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth as the name on the forehead of the whore of Babylon is.

 Revelation 17:6

17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

18:24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

compare with:

Matthew 23:29,30

23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

23:30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

Matthew 23:37

23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under [her] wings, and ye would not!

Luke 11:47

11:47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.

I Thessalonians 2:15

2:15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; ...

Luke 11:50

11:50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

Luke 13:33,34

13:33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the [day] following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

13:34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen [doth gather] her brood under [her] wings, and ye would not!

In the preceding verses of revelation 17:6 and 18:24 we find the whore of Babylon is found drunken with the blood of the saints, prophets and all that were slain upon the earth.

That generation, the generation of Christ’s crucifixion, would be held accountable for all the blood of the prophets from the foundation of the world. The prophets as well as Jesus died at Jerusalem. As we will see Jerusalem was spiritually destroyed at the cross. She was no longer the wife or the chosen people. Let’s go on.

Revelation 17:18

17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

This passage is pretty much self explanatory. The woman who sits upon the waters of peoples in that great city. The woman is a city. That’s what the Bible says. The whore of Babylon is that great city, the chosen Jerusalem. Let’s look at some further evidence from God’s Word.

Revelation 18:12-16

18:12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,

18:13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

18:14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.

18:15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

18:16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

There again compare with:

Ezekiel 16:10-13

16:10 I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk.

Notice that the whore of Babylon and Jerusalem were clothed and had raiment of fine linen. No one buys her merchandise anymore. For all that Jerusalem had in being the chosen city she forsook the Lord. You can read more about the promises of the vengeance of the Lord on this people if they forsook Him in Deuteronomy 32.

Revelation 18:22,23

18:22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft [he be], shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;

18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

compare with:

Jeremiah 7:34

7:34 Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.

Jeremiah 16:9

16:9 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.

Jeremiah 25:10

25:10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.

Jeremiah 33:11

33:11 The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD [is] good; for his mercy [endureth] for ever: [and] of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD.

In these passages the voice of the bridegroom, the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, the light of the candle shall be heard no more at all in Jerusalem. In the old testament this is prophetic about their punishment for their whoredoms. In the new testament this is one of things accomplished at Christ’s first coming. He left Jerusalem’s house a house of desolation. The Lord’s vengeance on Jerusalem came in the form of Christ. They, by crucifying their messiah, brought about their own spiritual destruction.

Amos 7:9

7:9 And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

Matthew 23:38

23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Luke 13:35

13:35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until [the time] come when ye shall say, Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Of course even though the Jews were not to be the chosen people any longer they still had a more perfect way created through Christ. Now to whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord . Not just the Jews. For God is not a respecter of persons. Thus, this is one of the things resulting from Christ’s first coming and thus a revelation or revealing of Jesus Christ. There again the book of revelation is the revelation of Jesus Christ and all that happened as a result of His first coming.

Revelation 18:6

18:6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

compare with:

Isaiah 40:2

40:2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins.

Jeremiah 16:18

16:18 And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things.

Notice that the whore of Babylon receives double for her iniquity just as prophesied concerning Jerusalem. Afterwards her iniquity is pardoned because the Jews have the same opportunity for salvation as the Gentiles. It is a better and closer walk with the Lord. We together as one flock now have been redeemed. Not with the blood of animal sacrifices, but with the precious blood of Jesus.

Revelation 18:15-21

18:15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

18:16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

18:17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

18:18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What [city is] like unto this great city!

18:19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

18:20 Rejoice over her, [thou] heaven, and [ye] holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.*

18:21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast [it] into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

We would like to consider a few things about this passage. First notice that the scripture says repeatedly that the whore of Babylon is a great city. Her desolation comes in one hour. So great riches come to nought in one hour. What great riches? The great riches of spiritually being the chosen people and city. God has avenged his apostles and prophets. When Christ came and died on the cross Babylon was cast into the sea. She shall be found no more at all. All of Jerusalem’s riches that God bestowed upon her came to nothing in one hour at the cross. A revelation of Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 50:46

50:46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.

Revelation 11:8

11:8 And their dead bodies [shall lie] in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

Here we see that Jerusalem is that great city for this is where our Lord died. Babylon the Great is that great city of Jerusalem.

In this we should also be aware that many times prophetically in the old testament the Lord delivers spiritual Israel (the New Spiritual Jerusalem) and punishes spiritual Babylon (1st century Jerusalem). Sometimes they are known by their literal name. Other times by their prophetic name.

Jeremiah 50:22,23

50:22 A sound of battle [is] in the land, and of great destruction.

50:23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

Jeremiah 51:7,8

51:7 Babylon [hath been] a golden cup in the LORD'S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

51:8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

Jeremiah 51:13

51:13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, [and] the measure of thy covetousness.

Amos 5:13-18

5:13 Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it [is] an evil time.

5:14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

5:15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

5:16 Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing [shall be] in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.

5:17 And in all vineyards [shall be] wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD.

5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end [is] it for you? the day of the LORD [is] darkness, and not light.

Ezekiel 27:26-36

27:26 Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters: the east wind hath broken thee in the midst of the seas.*

27:27 Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy merchandise, and all thy men of war, that [are] in thee, and in all thy company which [is] in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.

27:28 The suburbs shall shake at the sound of the cry of thy pilots.

27:29 And all that handle the oar, the mariners, [and] all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land;

27:30 And shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes:

27:31 And they shall make themselves utterly bald for thee, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for thee with bitterness of heart [and] bitter wailing.

27:32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, [saying], What [city is] like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea?

27:33 When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many people; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise.

27:34 In the time [when] thou shalt be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters thy merchandise and all thy company in the midst of thee shall fall.

27:35 All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at thee, and their kings shall be sore afraid, they shall be troubled in [their] countenance.

27:36 The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never [shalt be] any more.

Notice how in verse 30 and 31 that the people of the earth cast dust upon their heads and wallow themselves in ashes. They also gird themselves with sackloth. These are signs of mourning and compare to revelation 18:19.

Also notice they say what city is like Tyrus as in revelation 18. This city is destroyed in the sea. In verse 27 above we read how that thy riches, and thy fairs, thy merchandise, etc. fall into the midst of the sea.

Revelation 19:1-3

19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:*

19:2 For true and righteous [are] his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

19:3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.

compare to:

 Isaiah 34:8-10

34:8 For [it is] the day of the LORD's vengeance, [and] the year of recompenses for the controversy of Zion.

34:9 And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.*

34:10 It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

Many look at the fire that is not quenched or the smoke that goes up for ever and ever as a proof of something or someone being tortured forever. As we can see from this passage it is to be understood that it means from generation to generation it shall lie waste. Eternally to never come to life again. Never to be the only respected chosen people of God again.

To summarized what we have read and what was prophesied of literal Jerusalem: 1) The whore of Babylon committed fornication, whoredoms, and abominations against the Lord as did Jerusalem.2) Jerusalem was decked with precious stones, jewelry, etc. as is the whore of Babylon.

3) In the whore of Babylon was found the blood of the prophets and saints. This is also true of what is said of Jerusalem by Christ and Paul.

4) The whore of Babylon is referred to as that great city. It is a city. The great city is also mentioned as to where our Lord was crucified which was Jerusalem.

5) No one or any merchants buy the whore of Babylon’s goods anymore. This is also true of the prophecies of the old testament of Jerusalem.

6) The sound of the millstone, light of the candle, voice of the bride, or the voice of the bridegroom is heard no more at all in the whore of Babylon. The same is prophesied in the old testament of Jerusalem. 7) The whore of Babylon receives double for her transgressions. It is also prophesied of Jerusalem that she would receive double for her iniquities before her pardoning.

8) Both spiritual Babylons are cast into the sea and will rise no more.

9) The whore of Babylon’s destruction comes in one hour. So great riches have come to nought. This is what happened to Jerusalem’s chosen status when Christ came. All, Jews and Gentiles were now before the throne of God and accepted by Him.

The evidence is overwhelming! I know of no other city, people, or otherwise in the Bible that is so clearly identified as the whore of Babylon. I know that there is much conjecture on the subject but we must use the Bible and only the Bible to come to an understanding. Anything else cannot be relied upon as fact. There is much more that could be discussed about Jerusalem. There are many misconceptions and honest misunderstandings. We have but scratched the surface of what the old testament says about Jerusalem and her abominations. There is much more to read and learn. I encourage each reader to read as much of the old testament as possible to gain a clearer understanding of literal Jerusalem and the prophecies about her.

Remember also that just as God’s law was written on stone, it is now written in our hearts. As God used to dwell in a literal temple made with hands, He now dwells in the temple of our heart. As God used to have a literal chosen city, He now has a spiritually chosen city. Let us move on to the New Jerusalem.
