18 Jan 2005: The Hamster Speaks ...

The members/titles page has been updated.  Renga-kas may wish to double-check their personal info to be certain it is correct.  I'd hoped to add a MT Metarenga: Yuki page, but it seems non-paying members can only have seven pages hosted by freewebs.  Instead, the Yuki renga can be found at: http://www.filespace.org.nyud.net:8090/nom_de_plume/_Yuki.htm

Chun's Rant 12/6/04- PAUSE

This rant will probably be pretty short; I've been working out things with AncestralHamster and been dealing with one of the most important school years in my whole life. I'll explain more later, when I have time; for now, I want to get some things straight.

I HAVE been working on the signatures, and collecting bits and pieces of the rengas. As for the people that asked me for them, I remember these:

Nightstrife-Mami
dimension_drift-Sonoda
chibichibi- Seraphim

(PM for Characters, choose three) Basic Signatures:
Breathstealer- Basic sig

I spend a considerable amount of time on these; making the dimesions good, the color intact, and the font as "official looking" as possible. I tediously cut and paste letters from strip sentences and place them together. Not that I'm complianing, I just feel glad to be doing this than running a group site with no activity at all. I'm sure AH feels the same :).

That's all I have for now. I'll be surfing the renga threads, hitting Ctrl and F, searcking for "Renga-ka:". This is why I have the format there :D.
I'll be editing this later. Keep rengaing, and give me a PM or e-mail  (if PM is full) hit if you need something.

Now to go background hunting...

Drink your coffee,
~Chun

8/23/04- Chun's Rant: Summer Is Like Overturned Rice in Your Bento

*Frantically dusts off the place and puts up new walpaper*

Ahh... nice and clean. Hello everyone, and it's great to see everyone. I haven't ranted in ages, but yet, there is so little to rant about. So where to start? It's a long rant today, but I'd be greatful if people read it through. Let's do business first.

As most of you know (And for those who don't, read now), I'm back from my extensive vacation to begin making signatures and transferring data over to here. We will be ending the Erika Metarenga for now, and be starting the Largo Metarenga later on from here. I'm very pleased at the results and verse each person as done, and greatful for the more members interested in this little project. I'll be repeating this little item of business: The Mega-Ka Characters. If you have not reserved your character when you wish to reach that idle 50 verse parts, please give me your top three, your reason for wanting the characters, and I'll put it into consideration as to who is going to get it. However, if you don't have a signature piece in the first place, I'll be sure to make you one as soon as possible. Please refer to the bottom for characters. Please give me 3 that are not on that list, and one or two that are on that list at the bottom, so that I can make sure that you at least get something you want (And not a side character... like say... Construction Worker); I won't stop you if you want someone like the Construction Worker, However (Or of that nature).

Great, now that that's out of the way, life's been really rocky. School starts next week, much to my amazement and disbelief. It seems that the summer days are getting shorter each year, and the school schedules down here in the Silicon Valley are really jumbled about. Thursdays are short days, Wednesdays are cut in half, and then you have a later-in-the-day Thursday... It takes up too mch vacation time, for me to do other things, like program a text adventure, or work on this site, or work on my Doujinshi and fanart (Which are currently frozen in time for now). Time flies beyond words, and stress builds, as, most know in the United States, in Junior Year, SATs are up and at 'em. I managed to score a 1190 on the PSAT, but still, if I want to hit my college, I've got to work...hard.

My two weeks of vacation were moderately fun. You know those places you've never heard of that your parents suddenly wanted to drag you out of the house to go see, even though it wasn't a good idea on paper? I was up in Northern California, in the city of Redding, and saw a wonderous bridge, made of plastic, steel, and glass. I got to walk on Sundial Bridge, a very beautiful and romantic place, perfect for a sketch or a stroll right after a nice dinner. There aren't any physical beams in the water, so it's actually supported up by a counterweight and suspension, making it so you can feel the vibration you make as you step on it. Seems like the perfect place to draw a romantic scenario in an anime. However, the other day after Sundial Bridge was not as relaxing.

The Veterans of the MTRengaKas will probably remember when I came back sick after taking that trip to Lake Tahoe, and talked about my problems with the altitude. The next location we went to was Lassen Volcanic Park, a beautiful place to hike, located in the surroundings of a naturally capped volcano. We went down to the Bumpass Hell, a giant Sulfur-Smelling place of Mudpots, Hot Springs, and other such things. This was about 8,000 feet up, and it's hard to breath in rotton egg smells when you can hardly do so without anything. We got out of that one in a hurry, but it was nice to get so close to the surface of a volcanic top. (The temperature was surprisingly cool up there; I got to touch snow again)

Besides that place, the park was relaxing, cool, and crisp. After the park we decided to go to dinner at a Japanese Restaraunt. Wait, no... that's not it. A "supposedly" Japanese restaraunt. Now, I'm no food critic, but if the stuff I ate at that Japan Garden Restaurant was Japanese, then Curry is French. It's a bad sign when you walk in and the room is decored in Chinese decorations. Now, I am, myself, Chinese, but that place was awful. Everything was oversauced, and overpriced. Here's a tip to all who go to a Japanese resteraunt; if they flip the bowl of rice over in your Dinner Bento, and have it standing like a mound in one section, you definitely got robbed. Why? You can't eat rice with chopsticks without it being in a bowl; it's put there to make your tray look bigger, when actually, you're not. It is redundant to only have chopsticks, and eat the rice grains but by bit. If they give you a bowl of rice, you've gone to a good place.  Just a little tip from a hopelessly ranting person.

I went down to Bakersfield and Palm Springs, California to visit my relatives, and not much else happened along with it afterward.

So what is the meaning of today's title? Basically, that overturned-from-a-bowl mound of rice in your bento is like Summer; Sure, it looks big, but when you actually get into it, it's too small.

That being said, thanks for reading my rant, and keep versing!

Pass the Soy Sauce Please,

~Chun

7/7/04- Chun's Rant: Inspiration

How's everyone doing? I've been trying to work on-- ahh, that's it. I'm going to try a new approach to rantage by telling you the progress than make excuses. I'm kinda tired of making excuses for myself, and it's screwing me over in new ways over and over again. So let's start out with this.

Do you like the new midi? Do me a favor and don't search for what game it comes from. It's from a game company called TYPEMOON, and I think it's pretty obvious what kind of company it is, but if not, you're going to learn something new today. I, myself, haven't played any of their games, (I know what you're thinking. "Yeah Right Chun") and I don't plan to any time soon. The game company is a H-game company, similar to the companies such as the ones who made Kanon. Now you're wondering, where did you find this music if you didn't see any of the images or anything like that? A simple google search for "Kanon MIDI", and along with the bunch was another game MIDI selection next to it. I try for the best reading melody, and I hope this one is a group pleaser. You can find the MP3, and it's another one of my favorite songs. (Simply put, without Fred sparking my curiousity in what this "Last Regrets" song was, I wouldn't have found so many soundtracks, or known of their existance. Thanks Fred :D) All trace back to inspiration.

Insipration is the most powerful thing that a person can experience, because it can drive them to their potentials. After reading several issues of Comic Party, I thought for a second, and watched as Kazuki began drawing, and sold himself a good amound of issues. At that point, I wanted to start my own doujinshi, and possibly my own series. After finishing the volume I decided to practice drawing some scenery, and I drew a bunch of trees, de-leafed, the best I've ever done in my entire life. What power in my mechanical pencil! What glory there is in making a picture! Then, a thought occured. I could draw a megatokyo character and put it in my drawing of scenery. Who to choose? I picked up my pencil, studied the strips, and looked at Fred's character design, making notes on how he draws them. I know that a doujinshi comes from one's own imagination, not just mere drawing from the author, but simply put, it's a nice model. So I happily started sketching Miho. Soon, I realized some strokes that it took to make the cetrain shapes, the lines in what area, all wrapped into a simple technique. I originally planned on drawing different poses, and then, was interupped by one thing; I wanted to try drawing all of Miho. So my fanart is on the way, ladies and gentlemen, and when I get the hang of it, I will be making a MT doujinshi. You heard right. And I'll inform all of you first before the crowd.

Putting that aside, When I was away for 4th of July Weekend, it was a normal day, barbequing, swimming, chicken fighting, etc, and I stayed over at my good Cousin Mike's house. Probably the only male near my age that was down there. There, it was pretty nice, I burned my hand once lighting fireworks, but it's alright now. My neck's still sore from the fights though. The morning before the BBQ, I decided to help my aunt wash dishes, as I needed money. I don't know what came over me, but as soon as I stepped into the kitchen... a washing machine couldn't have done any better. As I quickly went from plate to machine to drying and putting away, I was carrying a tray full of 16 glasses. I put it down on a cart, and it fell. Broken glass from 13 cups (Some survived), each 5 bucks each. Thankfully, my aunt let it go, but next time I'd have to wash my way back. Instead, I payed her in embarassment. I did my best American Idol impersonation in front of the family. I'll leave it to you to guess who, but they were laughing.

Woo, long rant. Anywho, to business, I haven't been moving the renga info because I'm awaiting an important e-mail from the staff of this webserver. There's a problem with italicing stuff, and I can't do anything about it, as I am using an editor. The button configuration is messed up, or the automatic html inserts (Thanks to Masa For Tipping Me Off About It). That's why you see text in red (Discluding the Disclaimer) around the site. As soon as that's fixed, I can move the verses.

Today's reference is not a game reference, just a title that stood out because of this week. Hope you all had a great 4th of July (And if not in the US, a great weekend), and I'll be seeing you around the boards.

Doujinshi Is Life,

~Chun

6/23/04- Chun's Rant: Miss...

Hello fellow friends and Renga-Kas. You're site designer Chun here, facing major turmoil.

Around 1:20 PM in the California area, I lost the information to the Mega-ka profiles; I need the info from those people as soon as they have the time to reach me. You see, as I was humbly putting up the info, I finished, gazing at the fineness and quality that I changed. Happy, I clicked the "Done" button in this editor (Because I still am learning HTML), and then, the page refreshed; only to show me a paragraph shown below. It's between the dotted lines.

--------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------

See anything? Didn't think so. The stupid thing was, I screwed up majorly; when I was compiling all of the members for the renga, I actually deleted the PMs as I went along; they were taking up major space in my inbox. So, in an attempt to salvage the info, I get an error message. In that grey box that gives you info around the boards.

"This Message Does Not Exist"

*Sigh* Guess the back button won't save everything. So unfortunately, that's my "Stupid Thing Chun Did" for the day.

Back on topic, since schools' out, I've had a lot of time on my hands. I've been playing my video games again (After three long months of being away from them), Writing fanfiction (My New Series: Yume, Chapter 1, Currently Editing), Reviewing my Trigonometry (At the request of my parents), and working on this site. I try hard to make sure everything looks great, perfect, and overall enjoyable. Sometimes though, things go beyond my control.

I hate to whine and make excuses for myself because I did something wrong; I want to make it right, I want to keep my friends and fellow Renga-Kas happy, and this is one way I can give back for all they've done. I really want to make this great; so for now, until I learn HTML, this is the template it's going to be like. I've got great ideas, but I haven't built the tools to do them. I find myself apologizing a lot nowadays... and that doesn't help my self-esteem...

Well, drifting from that subject (I just turned on the Summer Special of "Last Regrets"... gets me in the mood to do things :P), I've been reading this webcomic along with megatokyo called "10K Commotion", a DDR (Dance Dance Revolution, for those uninformed) based manga. The art style's great, and it just makes me want to go to my local Mini-Golf place and play a few songs. Especially Candy<3 and White Lovers (I typically play the "pop'n music" catagory... so sue me). It's at this site, http://www.10kcommotion.com. Like the story material, and everything about it. Got to thank Janna on the boards for indirectly introducing me to it (Meaning I looked at her fanart gallery and read a descript of it).

Anywho, I've got to head off to my High School and help clean up the computer lab; they need all the help they can get.

Today's reference is to the message you get when you completely miss a step on DDR; that's when you don't even press the button, or are FAR too late to. I get that a lot when I dance Maniac :P.

Don't Microwave Dr. Pepper,

~Chun

6/13/04- Chun's Rant: Final Lap!

Hello everyone. Well, here I am again, still not updated with the Renga. Although, I think the backs are a nice touch, eh? This month to three month theme will be Yuki, during the summer. As of now, I've been preparing my last-minute assignments and finals which are this week, which then I will be able to work even better on the Renga. So, here's the order of rantage I am going to do today. First will be the themes, next will be my life, and thrid will be something else.

The theme of Yuki was in my mind for a while when I first thought of the site. Now, you may think I'm just being a Yuki fanboy here, but in all honesty I'm trying to diversify the site to perhaps, different seasons or characters. You may have noticed the site's lost it's bluish-snow touch. That's because every season, I will change the color template and feature a new character; at least, that's what I have in mind. I'm thinking this right now, for your easy viewing:

Summer Theme: Yuki
Fall Theme: Miho or Kotone
Winter Theme: Kimiko or Ping
Spring theme: Erika or Seraphim

As for including guy styles, with Piro, Largo, etc, I'll have that sorted out later. For now, I'll be putting up images of the MT girls. Gomen to those Piro and Largo and Dom Fans.

As for life.... welllllll... it's crap. Utter crap. I'm really falling in my grades, I have a ton of projects due tomorrow, and I have to study for finals which will determine an F or a B. Whoopie. You know those get out of jail free passes? Sometimes, I wish I could have one of those and use it for "Get out of school for a week pass". Then I could catch up. Bring on the coffee, I say, because there's no way I'm gonna be sleeping anytime soon. WORK WORK WORK!!!

In the midst of sulking I decided to go on the boards and loosen my mind so I could work rather than bear frustration of my stupidity. Upon arrival, a Pop-Up PM notification appeared. I clicked the link, and it was a message from Masamage. She said that she would like to help in any way she can, just like two or three others who said the same thing. Yeah, I know I haven't been doing the greatest of jobs, but to see people offering their assistance, I thank them very much. Thanks Masa, AH, Nebulious, and anyone I missed, you know who you are. :). Anyway, when I read her message and she suggested something about it being on the community page, I froze. "Seriously?", I thought. So, I went over to the story discussion bar and saw the thread Piro made for fan pages. And there it was, meantioned by neither AH or myself. It was labeled "Chun's MT Renga Page", or something like that. I want to make this clear.

Although I have been the only one able to access this site, this site isn't mine alone. It's the people who contributed and people who visit the renga, those are the ones that the site belongs to. I'm just an assist, and I appreciate the credit, but it's better distrubuted among all of us.

As for the rant title today, it's basically a racing game inference. "Final Lap" Always flashes across the screen in one, and in my life, that's pretty much what's going on. I'm making the final corners of my school life and sophomore year, and there we go. Oh, and there's a chance I'll crash and burn in a smoldering pile of metal. Yep, that's my life alright.

Well, now if you'll excuse me, I have one more lap of tedious and studious work for me to do, and I've got absolutely no time. See you after Friday, and till then, Renga-kas, ja! Bring on the coffee!

If you can dodge traffic, you can dodge a ball,
~Chun

5/23/04- Chun's Rant: Not an Aeris Scenario

Hello everyone. Contrary to popular belief, I am still alive, and fully recovered from past events... except grades. All is right in my neighborhood for now, and the reason for the hold up of the site update is because A: Finals are in three weeks, B: I'm still catching and making up all my schoolwork and cramming EC into every nook and cranny, and C: My computer with my templates and tools are still locked up behind an autoexec.bat file which prevents me from entering windows. Saiko. Pretty short rant today, just letting you know that I'll be updating this when I have the time, personally, before the... 5th? 6th? chapter is over. As for the people who are awaiting my construction of their mega-ka and normal renga-ka sigs, I apologize for my stalling. In fact, if I had two lives, I'd commit seppuku right now to no longer dishonor you all.... well... maybe. Again, please bear with me (Even though it's been, like, a few weeks now...), and hope I haven't lost your trust and devotion.

One final note, don't drink and drive; there was a three day long event at my school called "Every 15 Minutes", and one of my friends was a participant. Sure, it's all fake, and they're not really dead, but imagine... what happens of one of your family members or friends is truly killed? Think about it. It was a downer week here in Santa Clara. Read about it here: http://www.scpd.org/community/15min.html

Final-final note, the rant reference today is basically about a scene in the RPG Final Fantasy 7. Highlight the bottom text to read the reference.

Aeris is a flower girl in the game that can use healing magic in her special attacks without costing any Magic Points. At one point, she is stabbed through the chest with a giant sword from the main bad guy, and shedissapears from the game after a little funeral CG cutscene. I cried at that scene. It was so sad, plus, I looked forward to using her as my main party for the whole time. Pheonix Downs (Revives) Don't work, and she could only be revived in the Japanese version of the game...

So, until then, keep on renga-ing!

~Chun

4/18/04- Chun's Rant: Low HP

Currently getting the member profile data up on the page; so far I've only recieved about 6 or 7 profiles, and I clearly know we have more than 7 members; the signatures I've made haven't added up. As of now, the character reservations for members is now over; if you wanted an upgraded signature with your custom character, it's become a rat race now; if you get to me first with your character in mind, I'll give it to you. Simple as that. This may be unfair to some forum goers, but I have two reminders before I closed this off. Right now, here in California, it's 1:30 AM, and I've been tolerant, so we'll see if tomorrow morning I will extend the date.

As for the renga, I can't seem to work on it now, because freewebs is going bonkers on me right now, and I'm lucky I can even post this message. So, after reviewing everyone's comments and actions, I've decided for these people, they will have these characters assigned to them for signature images:

Nebulious: Piro

Masamage: Kotone

Ph33rTh3B33r: Largo

TheBigN: Piroko

Keita-chan: Pirogoeth

Kitchan: Miho

Sorry if the one you wanted was up there, but I tried. It all depends on tomorrow's mood if these will stay or not.

If you want a background basic signature as a placeholder (Cause you are only a member, such as this one)

then please inform me Via PM or E-mail (PM suggested).

Alright... bed time. Now I know how Fred feels. Get that info in!

~Chun
