Marc Tyson Ewert.
I am of First Nations and Bulgarian decent. My artistic abilities are passed down from my father who is a Bulgarian artist. I have adapted to using a modern sense of design mixed with a style influenced by my Heltsuk heritage.
I have never limited my pieces to any one style. With my unique style I have had some barriers to overcome in being accepted in certain art galleries. First nation galleries accept "PURE NATIVE" art work, at the same time other galleries express that I should display my pieces at First Nation galleries. My work is true to me, where ever it may be displayed, hopefully will be appreciated; this is what keeps me creating.
With my art work, I want only to be recognized for my talent as an artist, not limited by society"s moldings of Native art. I feel that my art along with others like me, is establishing a fresh new outlook towards the way people think art should be. I feel it is time to make a change, to look to the future, take from the past and create.
