Welcome to my site. I'm Joy Sills, a Junior in Secondary Education at Mississippi State University. You might be wondering just how did a Secondary Ed major get interested in rocket science. Well, to be completely honest, I got involved because of my boyfriend who is a Aerospace Engineering student at MSU. He got involved with a NASA program - Undergraduate Student Launch Initiative (USLI) and was named captain of one of MSU's teams, the Space Cowboys. He wanted some non-Aerospace students and since a major part of the competition is Outreach (going to local schools) he wanted me to join. Needless to say I joined. The more I got involved the more my interest grew and thats how I got here.
I joined the National Association of Rocketry in May 2005 and after the first USLI competition (the Space Cowboys placed 2nd) my excitement went through the roof. The next day I designed my first rocket, the Little Red Express. I got certified NAR level 1 on October 13, 2007 at New Georgia Landfill in Fultondale, AL (Birmingham). After my certification my excitement peaked again and the next day I designed my level 2 rocket, the Rail runner.
