NEW YEAR ... NEW ART IDEAS

Paintings of NIGER...

OCT. 7th, 2008

Today was our first time working with Ms. Sarah Kolding, our visiting artist/painter from Denmark.  She brought us beautiful flower garden pictures, empty canvases, acrylic paints and brushes and taught us how to paint abstract flower gardens.

  A GARDEN on a DRESS...

Although we tried to keep our aprons in place, at the end of      our painting experience, Ms. Trone noticed the many paint spashes on our clothes.  The picture below tells it all.  LOOK at this Beautiful Garden on a dress!

ART Class #2

Today we had our second paiting class with Ms. Sarah. WOW!!! We decided to use the same canvases from last session to add onto their beauty.  We used masking tape and created spirals, stars and abstract forms on the original paintings, then we painted over the masking tape and at the end of the class, we unCOVERed SOMEthing MARVELlous...

ART Class #3

This morning, Ms. Trone asked a few children at a time to go in the garden and bring her leaves.  Many kinds of leaves filled up our table until Anne and Myriam waltzed in with the greatest one yet: a huge banana tree leaf...and so the inspiration for the painting class began today.

ART CLASS #4

We finally finished our Abstract Flower Gardens today.  We have used pieces of old torn paper to cover up bits of last week's art, then used paint rollers to go over the whole canvas.  Afterwards, we added small pieces of bark and glued colorful pieces of tissue paper on top of the canvases.  What a beautiful transformational artistic journey! NOW we will beautify our school's walls with our art.

THANK YOU, Ms. Sarah for all your GREAT ideas and patience...

NEWS: NOV. 2008

K-1 Donates their Canvas Art Work

K-1 and Ms. Trone are donating their canvas artwork to AISN for beautifying the Common Room where main events usually take place and also Ms. Debba's office . The two canvases you see below are the products of four weeks of hands-on painting sessions with our visiting painter from Denmark, Ms. Sarah Kolding.  We have been using many interesting textures, such as wood blocks, masking tape, tissue paper and tree bark.  We named our bigger canvas  Sunburst and the smaller one is titled Flower Garden.  We will be writing poetry to go along with our paintings.  This is the beginning of a beautiful idea to continue to display children’s artwork around the school and celebrate their creative gifts.

And WHO knows?

Maybe one day soon we would have our own art gallery available

for all to enjoy each day of the week.
