Tuesday 9/20/05 Welcome Students and parents!
Here whats going on in class at this time. 

1. We are currently in the second segment of our first unit.  This unit is entitled RAC -Roots of the American Character.  We are studying some of the ideas and issues that helped shape the uniqueness of this American Character early on in our history.   Why is it that when Huck Finn breaks the law in the 1800 we think that it's okay today in the year 2005?  Did the colonist who signed the Declaration of Independence commit treason or did they do the right thing?  Hmmm lots of issues about doing what's right by doing what is wrong.... Why is it that it was okay to take the land from the Native Americans? The Mexicans?  Who is the proper owner? Hmm...
2. Make up for all missed Exams & quizzes is done during tutorial! Tutorial is available on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM.  Tutorial will be switching fromTuesday to Wednesday Starting 9/28!

Class Information

Class: American Studies- College Prep Level United States History.  This is the history/social studies of Valhalla's American Studies program.  This meets the 11th grade social studies requirement for graduation.
Teacher: Alex Morales- Graduate of VHS- 1985; SDSU- 1992.  Teaching at VHS since 1998.
- A little bit about myself:  I've truly enjoy teaching at this level.  I am very motivated by the degree of effort that my students put forth.  I believe in a work first play later attitude.  I have been called very strict by many former students(probably because I have certain rules and expect my students to follow them).   I believe in personal responsibility for all.  You have the ability to choose your response in any situation.  I believe in KAIZEN!  I'm here to help you succeed.  I assure you that you will learn quite a bit about American History in this class.
