M. R. Miller Studios is an artist’s studio located in Santa Cruz, California. The resident artist and operator of M. R. Miller Studios, Michael Miller, has been drawing in various media most of his life, and has taken classes both in high school and college.

Q: Why commission a portrait?
A: There are many reasons to commission a graphite or charcoal portrait to be made from a photograph. Portraits are much more unique and vibrant than the photographs they are created from, and quite often are much more highly valued by their recipients. After all, anyone can take a photograph, but not just anyone can spend eight to forty hours turning that photograph into a work of art that can be cherished and appreciated for generations to come.

We are offering to create –completely free of charge– high quality hand drawn, matted, framed, and signed graphite memorial portraits from a photograph for those who have lost a loved one, friend, or pet to Hurricane Katrina.
If you have lost a friend, loved one, even a pet, to hurricane Katrina and the aftermath, or if you know someone who has, email mrmiller@mrmillerstudios.com. Include a photograph, any text you would like to include, their name (or nickname, if preferable) as you would like it to appear on the memorial drawing, and any other relevant information. Please include an address to which the finished portrait will be sent, otherwise you will not be able to receive your memorial portrait.
Each finished memorial portrait will be posted in a memorial gallery on this site, and the original will be sent to the person who requested it. Neither these portraits, nor any reproductions of these portraits will be offered for sale, and all portraits are subject to copyright, with Michael Miller holding all rights to both the portraits and any further reproductions.
