Click here School Year Concerts Calendar for the 2008 concerts calendar for West Rocks music departments (band, orchestra, chorus, and ensembles). Note that changes do occur to the calendar from time to time. You should use this calendar as a guide for planning, but to always confirm as the date approaches if it is still accurate. Also, Red Jazz and Blue Jazz have additional performances not listed on this calendar. Details regarding those additional jazz venues/dates will be sent home with your student as a handout, and via email.

Music in the Parks Competition: Friday, May 2, 2008 in Agawam, Massachusetts. The Seventh Grade Band will be attending this annual competition. Following the performance, students will spend the remainder of the day at "Six Flags New England" Amusement Park in Agawam, Massachusetts.

Spring Concert 2: Wednesday, May 7, 2008, 7:30pm at West Rocks MS. The 7th Grade Concert Band, Vocal Ensemble, 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra take part in this annual event. The school assembly takes place the day before, May 6th in the auditorium at 8:45am

Concert at Norwalk Community College: Friday, May 9, 2008 at NCC. The Red Jazz have been asked to perform at The Lifetime Learners Recognition Luncheon in the Pepsico Theater on the East campus of NCC at 1pm.

Spring Concert 3: Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 7:30pm at West Rocks MS. The 8th Grade Concert Band, 7th and 8th Grade Chorus and String Ensemble take part in this annual event. The school assembly takes place the day before, May 13th in the auditorium at 8:45am.

Spring Concert 4: Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 7:30pm at West Rocks MS. The The Red and Blue Jazz Ensembles plus Mrs. Gray's Dance Classes take part in this annual event. The school assembly takes place the day before, May 20th in the auditorium at 8:45am.

Spring Concert 1: Wednesday, April 30th, 7:30pm at West Rocks MS. The 6th Grade Concert Band, 6th Grade Chorus and 6th Grade Orchestra take part in this annual event. The school assembly takes place the day before, April 29th in the auditorium at 8:45am.

"IN CONCERT 2008", April 7, 2008 concert. Click here for program. West Rocks Red Jazz & Fairfield Middle Schools Jazz Band at West Rocks MS, concert 4/7/08, 7:30pm to 9pm (approx). Band members wear white collar shirt, black slacks, dark socks, shoes, and tie. 6th Grade Band Concert: Wednesday, April 2, 2008 Enjoy the first ever concert by the 6th grade band. Students should wear good school clothing (no jeans please). A short reception will follow the concert.

ALL CITY BAND CONCERT, Thurs March 27, 2008, 7:30pm, at Norwalk HS. This is usually a well-attended event, so arrive early to get a seat!

March 19, 2008 - West Rocks Sixth Grade Orientation. Blue Jazz students, please report to the band room between 6:15 and 6:30pm to tune for the program. Students will be free to leave at 7:00pm, when the program begins. White uniforms are to be worn.

March 11th - Norwalk HS Winter Jazz Concert. (Note new time): Red Jazz students, please report to the Orchestra Rm at Norwalk HS at 7:15pm to rehearse for the concert. The concert is from 8pm to 9:30pm. Black uniforms are to be worn. This is a fun, lively concert. Bring the family!

March 13th – The third rehearsal for the jazz clinic with Fairfield has been scheduled for Thursday, March 13th from 3:30 to 6:00pm at West Rocks MS. Students should remain at school in the band room doing their homework until the rehearsal begins. Parents are asked to pick students up at West Rocks at 6:00pm. A bagged snack is suggested for after school.

March 14th – 2008 Norwalk HS Jazz Festival, 3:30 - 9:30pm Click here for flyer 20 jazz ensembles will be performing in this 16th annual event sponsored by the NHS Jazz Ensembles and Band Parents Association. WR Red Jazz performs at 4:00pm. Come support them! The students may leave after our portion of the program, or remain to watch some outstanding high school jazz ensembles. Black uniforms are needed. Bring the family and neighbors for this terrific jazz event, always crowded, not to be missed.

WEST ROCKS (ANNUAL) PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Saturday March 1, 2008, 8:30 to 11:30 am. Modest admission charge.
Come enjoy a pancake buffet, chat with other West Rocks families (including incoming 6th grade families), and enjoy performances by our very own West Rocks string ensembles, jazz ensembles, vocal ensemble, and dance ensemble. This is an annual event not to be missed! Here's the line-up of entertainment:

Mark your calendars for the upcoming Cavalcade of Marching Bands at Norwalk High School, Sat Nov 3, 2007, an event you won't want to miss! Our very own 8th grade band will be performing with the NHS Band and Nathan Hale Band at Intermission (6:30pm). "In Concert 2007", 10th Annual, Monday, April 9, 2007, 7:30pm, at Roger Ludlowe MS, Fairfield. Red Jazz and jazz ensembles from 2 Fairfield middle schools perform jazz, with improvisation. A night of fun, improv surprises, and great jazz. Program: IN CONCERT 2007 Program

West Rocks Pancake Breakfast: Saturday March 3, 2007, morning. Come enjoy a pancake buffet, chat with other West Rocks families (including incoming 6th grade families), and enjoy music performed by our very own West Rocks jazz ensemble, string ensemble, and vocal ensemble. This is an annual event not to be missed! Here's the tentative performance lineup: Choral Ensemble - 8:40-9:00am, String Ensemble - 9:00-9:40am, both Jazz Ensembles - 9:45-10:30am, Dance Demo - 10:30-10:45. At the breakfast, Blue and Red Jazz Ensembles will be performing music from such artists as: Brian Setzer, The Average White Band, Deep Purple, and Bobby Troup, and demonstrating various music styles including rock, swing, blues, and ballad.

Winter Jazz Concert at Norwalk HS: Tuesday evening, March 20, 2007. An evening of jazz, with great performances by 3 Norwalk High School Jazz Ensembles as well as our very own West Rocks Red Jazz Ensemble. Don't miss this one, and bring the family.

Jazz Clinic Comes to West Rocks (Red Jazz) Tuesday, February 6, 2007, 9:15am to 1:10pm, West Rocks M.S. Eastside Band Concert Tuesday February 13, 2007, 7:30pm, Norwalk H.S. auditorium. 8th & 7th Grade Bands (combined) will perform a few pieces.

All City Band Concert (middle & high schools): Tuesday, March 27, 2007, 7:30pm, at Brien McMahon HS. Seating is limited due to popularity, so don't be late to find a good seat, and be sure to bring your camera/recorder.

15th Annual Norwalk High School Jazz Festival, Friday March 23, 2007, 4:30pm to 10pm. Many West Rocks alum are in the Norwalk HS Jazz Bands. Come and see/hear for yourself the quality of jazz musicianship at the high school level. 15+ high school jazz bands compete. Holidays Concert at Norwalk High School: 2006 Candlelight , Monday Dec 18 through Wednesday Dec 20, 2006, 8pm (doors close at 7:50pm). A holidays musical event (band, orchestra, choral) not to be missed, sold out every year!

Sat Nov 4, 2006, 24th annual Cavalcade of Marching Bands. This year, 21 marching bands from CT, NY, NJ are expected to compete. It is an event you and your family won't want to miss, and an extravanganza you have to experience in person. Every year, my 8th grade band students are invited to perform the "Star Spangled Banner" at Intermission with the Norwalk HS Marching Band. Information will be sent home (or posted here) regarding rehearsals for this event. It is an honor to be invited to perform at this show, and to see/hear the enormous talent of so many local student musicians, many of whom are West Rocks band graduates.
