THE ALLEGED ALLEGORICAL ALCHEMY OF THE MYSTERY MEN MOVIE!

IS IT JUST CAMPY FUN?....OR SOMETHING MORE?

BORN TO BE BAD!....

The VILLAINS in the MYSTERY MEN movie symbolize sociological, institutional and cultural 'evils',...starting with.....

...THE  RED-EYES!

The RED-EYES and their leader 'BIG RED' (played by Artie Lange) represent COMMUNISM! Notice that they begin by recklessly ravaging a 'masonic' looking party. They strip everything they can and devour food as they go. They mindlessly terrorize the old folks home (which represents the old countries of Europe and Asia which were inhabited and/or controlled by old masonic orders). Only the timely intervention of Captain Amazing (who represents American technology and military superiority) can actually stop them.

 

CASANOVA FRANKENSTEIN!

CASANOVA FRANKENSTEIN  (played by Geoffrey Rush) represents 'CHRISTIAN FAITH' or more specifically THE VATICAN  which is the ages old enemy of the FREEMASONS who are linked through their history and rituals to JUDAISM!  (During their initiation rites, Freemasons re-enact the death of Hiram-A-Bith who was the architect of Solomon's temple in Jerusalem. Hiram-A-Bith died rather than give up the secrets of the temple). The name 'Casanova-Frankenstein' is analogous to Christianity's perceived struggle between 'HEAVEN and HELL' , God and Satan and/or the fiery contrasts between the sacred and the profane which is traditionally offered to those who follow the Christian faith.

The first time we see Casanova, he is sitting shackled and stripped before the parole board resembling Jesus on trial before the Romans. He calls the parole board the 'blessed disciples of Hippocrates' and seems to hear a choir of angels singing Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" ( You can view the lyrics to this song at the end of this webpage).

He further proclaims his heart to be split in two which points to the double-minded paradox of thinking. It has been said that evil has the ability to hold two contrary thoughts at the same time. This is what Casanova Frankenstein represents: RELIGIOUS CONTRAST! In literature we find that the character of 'Casanova' was the ultimate male symbol of  DESIRE while 'Frankenstein' was the ultimate male symbol of FEAR. (In the Buddhist tradition, Buddha's 'middle path' lies between the extreme opposites of FEAR and DESIRE,...whereupon one is not tempted nor coerced by either.) Christians 'desire' a heavenly existence in the hereafter and 'fear' enduring a hellish punishment in Perdition.

When Casanova returns to his 'home' we find that it is an opulent mansion full of Renaissance Art and decor indicative of vast wealth ( the Vatican is obscenely rich and historically the patron of most Renaissance artists). The hugely ornate front gates to the mansion resemble the heavenly 'pearly gates' of Biblical fame and remind us of the extreme wealth exhibited by the Vatican..

 

When we get our first good look at Casanova Frankenstein in his finery, he is being reflected in a mirror...but only for a brief moment. But it's a very key moment. Notice that in this mirror the two gigantic rings he wears appears briefly to be worn on his right hand. This is a direct comparison to the Pope who uses those same two fingers to bless the masses with ( they represent the Vatican's power on heaven and on Earth). A second later we see that those two rings are actually being worn on his left hand,...which is the movie's taunting way of saying "'PSYCH!"  to the Vatican (See also: The Heirophant; Major Arcana card in TAROT decks).

When Captain Amazing first arrives at Casanova's castle to bring him to justice, the Captain orders him to surrender all his gimmicky weapons. Casanova complies, then replies "We know each other so well don't we....Lance!" (Lance Hunt). 

 

 

This is a clue to the viewer about the true situation between the two; that even as Captain Amazing knows all of Casanova's secrets, so too does Casanova know everything about Captain Amazing. When Casanova defeats Captain Amazing, notice that he again uses the familiar: "Oh Lancey,...you're so predictable". This begs the question...if Casanova knew the Captain's secret identity, why didn't he expose him before this? This, I believe refers to a kind of 'mutually-assured-destruction' pact (M.A.D.) that must exist between the Vatican and Masonic-controlled America. An all-out exposure of either will result in the exposure of the other.

Notice also that Casanova speaks with a german accent. This harkens back to the days of NAZI Germany when the Vatican signed a concordant with Hitler's regime. Catholicism became, in effect, the state religion of Hitler's regime in order to legally justify the outright killing of 'heretics' or Jews. Casanova's german accent is a direct dig at the Vatican's complicity during this time and yet another taunt. 

 

 

DR. ANNABELLE LEEK!

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. ANNABELLE LEEK (played by Lena Olin) is the corrupted psychiatrist who pronounces Casanova to be sane at his parole hearing. She has somehow been secretly 'turned' by Casanova-Frankenstein into becoming an evil character herself. She even gets her own evil costume. Everything about her is mysterious and very understated....which means she is very important in some fashion. She is never taken to task as a villain in the movie and her final fate is unclear. I believe she represents either:

1.  SCIENCE and/or the MEDICAL COMMUNITY ...The movie may be portraying 'SCIENCE' or 'MEDICAL SCIENCE' as being literally 'in bed' with the Vatican. 

2. DRUG CARTELS or DRUG ABUSE in general which (supposedly) has been bent to the will of the Vatican. The vastly powerful South American drug cartels control much of South America through 'fear' while the Catholic religion dominates the faith and spiritual 'desires' of most latin countries.

A little research on the word 'leek' turns up some interesting germanic roots (leug) that means to 'TURN' or 'BEND'. The name 'Annabelle' has latin roots 'amabilis' which mens 'loving'. 

Therefore the name 'ANNABELLE LEEK' means "loving to turn' or "loving to bend".

In another name twist, the name 'Annabelle Leek' may be a synonym for 'ANABOLIC' (anabol-lic) which means to 'build up' something or someone. Usually referring to a metabolic process of building bone, muscle and tissue. This may be an indirect accusation that the Vatican is actually being supported or 'built up' by drug money in some way.

Draw your own conclusions there....but I believe that the fact that Dr. Annabelle Leek escaped the movie's final battle scot free harkens back to the days of 'PROJECT PAPERCLIP' where America let Nazi scientists escape punishment after World War II in return for their services afterwards during the Cold War. As I say,...draw your own conclusions.

 

TONY P.   and   TONY C.

  

  

 

In the Mystery Men movie, 'DISCO' music (which is universally viewed as the epitome of passe' ) is used to represent TRADITIONAL CHRISTIAN RELIGION.  TONY P. (played by Eddie Izzard) represents the PROTESTANT branch of Christianity! TONY C. represents the CATHOLIC branch. There is a stark difference between the two; Tony C. is black while Tony P. is white. Yet they are united in their fanatical worship of the same religion: DISCO! (or 'Christianity' ) 

Later on, there is a moment when Casanova Frankenstein discusses the future with Tony P. in the old 'disco room'. There are several things here which allude to religion. Notice the stained glass windows similar to a church in the background? Notice also that Tony C. is not present during this meeting. That's because he represents the Catholic branch of Christianity which is already dominated by the Vatican. It is Tony P. (representing Protestantism) which must be convinced to re-enter the fold and join Casanova.

Tony P. displays his 'religious fanatacism' for disco at one point by yelling out: "DISCO IS NOT DEAD! DISCO IS LIFE!!!" Casanova replies: "MYSTERY! Zat is THE PASSION! I KNOW!". The Passion' refers to the 'PASSION' plays that re-enact the death of Jesus. "Stick wizz me Tony,..." says Casanova, "...and you vill danse again!" This means that united under the Vatican's leadership, Catholicism and Protestantism are a formidable force in the world.

The rest of the 'DISCO BOYS' represent the various other denominations around the world who come under the umbrella of Christianity.

THE DISCO BOYS! (COVETOUSNESS) (Christian Denominations around the world).

THE SUITS! (GLUTTONY)( GREEDY CORPORATIONS,...for example: "BIG TOBACCO" )(Just FYI: I watched a deleted scene and found out the names of four of the Suits gang members: Smith, Barney, Paine & Weber!)

THE FURRIERS! (LUST) (The PORN and SEX industries around the world)

THE FRAT BOYS! (PRIDE) (The EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM, Universities, The rich UPPER CLASSES) Notice the name of the fraternity: PHI ZETA!...spelled P-H-I-Z!. 'Phiz' is an old english word for 'visage' or FACE!

 

THE SUZIES! (ENVY) (RED CHINA...overly populated with males. China envies the West in many ways.)

THE NOT-SO-GOODY BOYS! (ANGER) (Gangs, criminals, small military regimes around the world...etc )

 

  NEW SYMBOLIC ANALOGY!...
