Puppies & Health Testing

I began my research on which which dogs could be a possible future 'husband' for Corrie. With the help of knowledgeable friends a short list was drawn up and their owners were approached for more information on temperament, conformation & achievements, plus photographs, copy pedigrees, health test results, DNA test results etc.

Some stud dog owners were very helpful and a dog was chosen. As I'd never done this before, I took lots of advice and had Corrie checked to find the right day for the mating. That day arrived and off we went.

What I had not considered was that Corrie just might have an opinion on this matter. Suffice to say that Corrie had her heart set on another dog.....

On the evening of 30th November 2005 Corrie & Gemma Hanekom's Forest Trail (Boo) were mated. After a lovely flirting session, they both seemed to know exactly what to do.

Corrie and Boo have both had the DNA test for CEA, both are Normal. This means that neither of them have the faulty gene, so their puppies will be genetically Normal by parentage for CEA.

Corries hip score is 4:4, she is BAER hearing tested Normal and has passed her adult opthalmic eye exam as unaffected for CEA, CPRA & PLL.

Raising Puppies

The puppies will be raised in my home, in the living room. They will have background sounds like radio, TV and sound tapes played so they are accustomed to most sounds as well as usual household noises.

I work from home as an Osteopath, so I'm around all day. I treat adults, children and babies (as well as dogs and horses) so the puppies will get used to people coming and going. When they are old enough there will be plenty of visitors including well behaved children of all ages.

They will be Opthalmically Eye Tested at +/- 6 weeks - even though they will will CEA Normal by Parentage we want to make sure that there is nothing else going on that we need to be aware of - and will also be BAER hearing tested (Corrie was tested as a puppy and is Hearing Normal).

With their health and safety in mind they will also be familiarised with car travel.

They will be KC Registered with the 'MountLochan' affix. Puppies will leave home with their KC registration papers (if available), a 5 generation pedigree, a copy of the litter test results, details of their worming and any veterinary treatment they may have had plus any other relevant information. A few days supply of the food they have been eating will also be given.

Puppies Born 26/2/06!

Puppies arrived a little earlier than we thought, but they were all good weights - we would have been pleased with their same birthweights if they had been born on their due date - and they are all very healthy. They have excellent appetites. Corrie is now comforatable enough to leave them for a few minutes at a time. She is a very attentive mother, all the puppies are well fed, clean and 'polished'.
