July 25 - 39th Annual Pine Valley Day Celebration!
And new this year.....
August 29 - MEMC Fun Trip for all to Bass Pro Shops in Rancho Cucamonga. Tickets will be available at Pine Valley Day. Bass Pro Shops is located in the Victoria Gardens Shopping Center, so if for some reason you can't spend all day at Bass Pro Shops there is plenty more to do there.
The MEMC would like to start by congratulating those students who received MEMC scholarships this year. It was a tough decision to narrow it down to the 7 winners and we’d like to thank all of those students who sent us applications. Lauren Heimerdinger, Madison Maximo, Lara Kraus, Taylor Johnson, Kelsie Dauers, Natalie Green, and Kelsey Gilmore each received a $1000 MEMC Scholarship. Again, congratulations and we wish you all the greatest success with your continuing education.
Also this year, in conjunction with Pine Valley Day, there will be a Mountain Empire High School Multi-Year Reunion. So if you’re a MEHS alumni, you’ve got to check this out! If you would like more information on the reunion, please contact Sue (Graeber) Chamberlin at sue.chamberlin@yahoo.com or you can search Facebook for “MEHS Multi-Year Reunion” for more information.
The "Pine Valley Car Show 2009 - Run to the Hills #7” on May 30th was a huge success and brought in a lot of income for the MEMC scholarship fund. The MEMC would like to thank everyone who stopped by, and also the Monday Nite Car Club for their hard work in bringing the car show back to
The dinner and silent auction on June 11th at Descanso Junction restaurant was also a great success. The MEMC thanks everyone who made donations and bought tickets for the dinner, whose proceeds benefited the MEMC’s mission of providing college scholarships for backcountry high school seniors.
Due to the success of both these events that helped raise money needed to fund MEMC Scholarships and other community activities, they are likely to become annual events. The money from these fundraisers is desperately needed as Pine Valley Day is getting more and more expensive to produce each year. One example is the

The Mountain Empire Men’s Club needs your help. Over the past years the MEMC has been able to award ten $1000 scholarships each year to back country seniors continuing on to college. This year it appears we may only be able to award seven scholarships. By planning more fundraising events, we hope to raise enough money to continue awarding ten.
Here are a few of those events:

It was quite a busy December for the MEMC and we would like to thank all of those whose help and support made it another wonderful Christmas season throughout the Mountain Empire.
We hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas lights this year. The MEMC would like to give a big Pine Valley Thank You to The Pine Valley Store, Calvin’s, Major’s, The Mountain Market, The Pine Valley Community Church and Grandpa’s Mountain Nursery for allowing us to hook up and use their electricity.
The Senior Dinner was also a great success with approximately 85 people in attendance. We would again like to thank Al and Nancy Atallah of the Pine Valley Store for the turkeys, Southland Growers for the poinsettias, Corinne Lewis for the gingerbread house and the Alpine Choral Group.
Santa had a great time visiting with all the good little boys and girls. Santa and the MEMC would also like to greatly thank Pine Valley Java for allowing us to locate the Santa House at their location, and for their electricity too! And Santa, Thanks for visiting us again this year. We had a great time!

Another event the MEMC enjoys to present to the community - the annual Senior Christmas Dinner. Those 55 and older are invited to a free holiday turkey dinner. With wonderful Christmas music provided by the Alpine Chorale group directed by Shari Roth, and poinsettias and a gingerbread house being raffled off, a good time for all is expected. The turkeys have been donated by Al and Nancy Atallah of the Pine Valley Store and the poinsettias by Southland Growers. The gingerbread house is being made and donated by Corinne Lewis. The dinner is Saturday night, December 13 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the PV Clubhouse.

Our Open House in November was a success, drawing 9 potential new members. On September 4, new officers were elected to serve the Mountain Empire Men’s Club. Ken Minott replaces Jerry Miller as the President. Andy Oberreuter continues as the Vice President, Matt McClendon takes over the duties as treasurer from Pat Sprecco and Ken Gary takes over the secretary position from long time secretary Dick Dupree. We wish to thank the past officers for all of their hard work and dedication and wish great success on to the new crew!
Did you know that over the last ten years, the MEMC has given 50 graduating Mountain Empire seniors one thousand dollar scholarships, and most of it has come from Pine Valley Days? Besides scholarships, the MEMC funds numerous student projects and athletic teams at both the high school and elementary level. For at least ten years, the men's club has also been sponsors of the annual Christmas dinner for area seniors, providing a turkey dinner with all the trimmings for up to 100 seniors and carolers from the chorus from Alpine. Additionally each year, the MEMC decorates Pine Valley and Descanso with festive outdoor Christmas lights. The club also sponsors the ever-popular Santa House, which has been going on in Pine Valley for at least 20 years.
