Informazzjoni dwar ir-Rotunda u festi f'Malta

 

Il-fratellanzi kienu jiehdu sehem shih fil-hafna purcissjonijiet li kienu jsiru barra u gewwa l-knisja Arcipretali taghna.  Dawk li kienu jsiru gewwa l-knisja kienu jorganizzawhom il-Fratellanzi tas-Sagrament, tar-Ruzarju, tac-Cintura u tad-Duluri.  Tas-sagrament kienu jiehdu sehem kull tielet Hadd tax-xahar (‘tat-Terza’).  Tar-Ruzarju kienu jaghmlu wahda kull l-ewwel Hadd tax-xahar (‘tal-Prima’), filwaqt li dawk tac-Cintura kienu jaghmlu l-purcissjoni taghhom fir-raba’ Hadd (‘tal-Quarta’).  Dawk tad-Duluri kienu jaghmlu gewwa sitta biss.  Hawn qed nitkellmu mill-fratellanzi Mostin ta’ sittin/sebghin sena ilu u izjed ukoll.

Insemmu hawn il-purcissjonijiet li kienu johorgu barra u li kienu jiehdu sehem fihom is-sitt fratellanzi.  Dawn kienu hmistax, barra l-Gimgha l-Kbira.  Sebgha minnhom kienu purcissjonijiet ewkaristici, u kienu jinkludu t-tnejn ta’ nhar Corpus u dawk tal-Hadd u tal-Hamis ta’ l-Ottava ta’ Corpus, tal-Qalb ta’ Gesu`, tat-Tre Re u ‘tat’Terza’ meta kienet tahbat nhar Santa Marija.  It-tmienja l-ohra kienu dawk ta’ Santa Marija, tar-Ruzarju, tal-Ward, tac-Cintura, tad-Duluri, tas-Salib, ta’ San Guzepp u ta’ San Pacifiku.  Ghal xi zmien dik tal-Ward inbidlet f’dik ta’ Marija Regina.  Kull fratellanza kien ikollha madwar hmistax-il zewg fratelli u wara kull purcissjoni kienu jimxu ghadd ta’ nies sewwa jitolbu, drawwa qaddisa li baqghet, ghalkemm b’nies inqas, fil-ftit purcissjonijiet li ghadhom johorgu barra.

The confraternities used to take part in the many processions held inside and outside Mosta Archpresbyteral Church. Those held inside this church were often organized by the Confraternities of the Holy Sacrament, Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Consolation and Our Lady of Sorrows. The Confraternity of the Holy Sacrament used to hold a procession every third Sunday of each month. ( the ‘Terza’) while the Confraternity of the Rosary used to hold a procession every first Sunday of the month ( the ‘ Prima’ ).On the other hand the Confraternity of Consolation used to hold their procession every fourth Sunday of the month (the ‘Quarta’). The Confraternity of Our Lady of Sorrows used to hold only six processions inside the church. One must keep in mind that this is the situation around sixty/seventy years ago and before.

 

It is worth mentioning the six external processions in which the six confraternities used to take part. These were fifteen apart from the Good Friday procession. Seven of these processions were eucharistic processions and these included: the two processions on the feast of Corpus Christi and two other processions on the Thursday and Sunday following Corpus Christi, the processions of the Sacred Heart of Christ, The Epiphany and the ‘Terza’ procession if the feast of the Assumption would fall on the third Sunday of the month. Eight other processions were those of: The Assumption, Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of the Roses, Our Lady of Consolation and Our Lady of Sorrows. Other processions were those of the Holy Cross, Saint Joseph and Saint Pacificus Martyr. For some time the procession of Our Lady of the Roses was changed into that of Maria Regina. Every confraternity used to have fifteen pairs of confraternity members and in every procession many devotees used to walk with the procession and pray, a custom that still goes on, even if less people participate in the few processions that are still held.
