F’Nofskom hemm wiehed li intom ma tafux (Gw. 1:26) Dan qalu Gwanni l-Battista lill-Farizej. Imma zgur tghodd hafna ghas-socjeta` tal-bniedem illum, sahansitra ghall-insara, dwar is-sacerdot. Mhux ma nafux lil Dun Gwann jew lil Dun Karm, imma ma nafux bizzejjed dwar il-htiega tieghu fostna, il-missjoni li ghandu x'jaqdi, il-hidma bit-tbatija li jwettaq, id-dinjita` vera tieghu! Kemm jiswielna niftakru kliem Gesu` lill-appostli li kienu l-ewwel sacerdoti: "min jisma' lilkom jisma' lili, min imaqdar lilkom imaqdar lili" (Lq.10:16) Ma nirrealizzawx, ghalkemm hekk hu: is-sacerdot huwa pont li jwassal il-genna. "min jigi warajja ma jimxix fid-dlam, izda jkollu d-dawl tal-hajja" (Gw. 8:12). Is-sacerdot ikun maghna mit-twelid sal-mewt, fil-ferh u fin-niket u fl-aktar waqtiet importanti tal-hajja. Ghalhekk dahlet l-espressjoni: Sacerdot alter Christus li tfisser is-Sacerdot hu Kristu iehor … ghax ghandu l-istess missjoni u l-istess setghat! Tahseb li tafu bizzejjed lis-sacerdot?
Among you stands one whom you do not recognize (John 1:26) This was said by John the Baptist. But it is relevant to today’s society, even to Christians, about the priest. Not because we don’t know about this priest or the other, but we don’t know enough about his niece amongst us, his mission, the often suffering work that he undertakes, his true dignity! It pays to us remembering Jesus’s words to the apostles who where the first priests: ”who hears you hears me, who mocks you mocks me”. (Luke 10:16) We don’t often realize, even if it is the truth ; the priest is the bridge that leads us to paradise; “who follows me does not walk in the dark, but will have the light of life.” (John 8: 12) The priest is with us from birth till death, in joy and sadness and in the most important moments in life. Hence the expression: Sacerdot alter Christus that means The Priest is another Christ. ...because he has the same mission and power! Do you think that you know the priest enough?
