Sawmill track & yard

I wanted the sawmill yard to be able function as a self contained switching layout. This meant it not only had to look the part but contain a degree of operational interest. At the same time the rebuilding/relocating of my layout, I bought a 'Fast Tracks' switchbuilding kit. This has become one of the most enjoyable aspects of this move, I've completely scratchbuild the track and switches for the yard out of code 55 rail, including a 3-way switch.

The yard throat. The 3-way switch is to the right of the pick-up truck.

A view of the sawmill yard. Engine shop and machine shop in the foreground, warehouses & dispatcher's office midway and sawmill at the rear.

The 3-way switch, up close.

So far most of the trackwork is done but not yet powered up.

The layout as it now stands. The large warehouse has been replaced with a smaller Grandt Line corrogated structure and a Campbells freight house, courtesy of good friend & fellow modeller, Ron Lynn.

The workshop track is curved to run beside the engine house and the trackage at the far end of the layout, near the sawmill is all but complete.

The two curved switches, built as one unit with 24" radius on the main line and 18" radius curving out to the run-round road (lower right with car 11 partly visable) and the master siding.

The track to serve the dock can clearly be seen.
