Moss Lake Lumber Co.
Logging The Pacific Northwest in Australia

Hello and Welcome!

Welcome to my model railroad site. If you are interested in geared steam, logging railroads, diesel power in the woods and just machinery, so am I!!

My model railroad is based in a mid to late 1950s time frame where steam was still in use but diesel logging equipment was in use also on both railroads and in timber harvesting.

My HO scale model railroad has a sizable locomotive fleet, 10 diesels, all but 1 are switchers and 8 geared steam locos and 4 rod engines. More details of my fleet and photos are on the engines & cars page.

The 'Official' history of the Moss Lake Lumber Company

The Moss Lake Lumber Co. is an old family owned logging and sawmilling company operating in the coastal ranges of northern Oregon /southern Washington. The Gibson family, pioneers in the Moss Lake basin, established a sawmill to supply the growing towns and farms of the area. An old former New York Elevated forney was imported to work the new-fangled railway that replaced the oxen teams around the 1910 era. 4 sawmills have been built up till 1960, the 3rd & 4th mills still being in operation. Astute management has seen the company survive and grow, even retaining and dieselizing the logging railroad to become one of the few surviving post WW2 logging railroads.

NEWSFLASH!!

February 17, 2006

Well, it's been a while since I posted something new here, mainly because I've had big computer problems at home while on leave from work.

The biggest news is the birth of Vivicia Alexandra, my third daughter on October 18th, last year. Hopefully I'll have more regular updates now. I've started this by posting

two recent shots of my efforts at scenery around the engine shed area. You can find them on the 'Mill structures' page.

August 15, 2005

New photos added to equipment page and rolling stock page.

Latest photo of the layout also updated.

July 9, 2005

Services have resumed at the sawmill yard.

Despite the ongoing trackwork, limited switching has now resumed with number 1 shay and number 7 heisler.

Stay tuned for further developments!

'Under Construction'

I'm having a lot of fun making and adding to my site but it is still 'under construction' so please check back for updates!!

Thanks,

Russ Casey,

Moss Lake Lumber Co.
