Third Grade Goodies

As promised, here are the Word document templates I used to create the vocabulary dominoes, matching games, and making choices vocabulary activities. Hope they will save you some work as you prepare lessons this year!

Reading Connections

Just click on the links and you'll be able to download the files. You can highlight the text

in the document and type in the vocabulary words for the unit stories. Keep checking back

because I'll be adding new resources as I find things that might be of interest to you.

One of my three reading groups is Partner Read. Students take turns reading to a partner,

then retell the story using the scoring rubric. While this group meets, I also have a Teacher

Group, who meets with me to read and discuss the story, work on skills strategies for

fluency and comprehension, as well as modeling Think Aloud strategies. A third group is my

Vocabulary Group, who works on vocabulary skills and games.

If you aren't into using the templates on your own, I've posted the vocabulary

games for the rest of the third grade units. I hope this gives you some extra time

to develop your story units.

That makes all of the matching and domino games for the whole year! Print them

out as blackline masters and then copy on cardstock and laminate!

If you have ideas for more resources, please let me know and I'll try to get them

online for everyone.

Need a way to plan for your centers? Here's a centers planning sheet I've created to use

with my lesson plans this year. Feel free to use it if you wish!

For those of you who would prefer to type in your centers information, I have created

a planning sheet with fields for typing in your plans.

JEOPARDY GAMES

These Jeopardy Games are great for Whole or Small Group Instruction. Your students

will love them! I use a magnetic wall pocket chart to display the game on my board. I've

added the games to my Interventions Box as an additional resource.

Don't forget these great web sites:

http://www.makingbooks.com/hotdog.shtml- I love this site! There are

some great ideas here for making books with kids. I use them lots for

vocabulary study and for note taking. Sign up for a monthly newsletter

with wonderful ideas. I've seen this hotdog book listed as a "poof" book, too.

Students can make several, stack them together, and glue them to make a growing

word book for vocabulary!

A terrific utility to use with Microsoft Word is Teacher's Pet.

With this facility you can make flashcards, crosswords, puzzles,

bingo cards, and lots, lots more! Download from:

If you haven't already been to Laura Candler's website---Teaching Resources at

www.lauracandler.com you have to check it out! She has some terrific ideas for small

groups in reading. I'm giving you a sampling of some of the materials on her site.

I can place interactive fields on any of the plans if you would like--just send me an email!

Let me know if you need any help with these files. You can email me at :

I've also created a website for fourth grade teachers. You might like to check out

some things online there: http://www.freewebs.com/readingsthething

Writing Connections

Here's a link to a web site with Mini-Office materials for your students to use

in editing their writing. I made a class set of these, laminated them, and

keep them at the Writing Center. You can choose the items you want to place

in your mini-offices, and then download or print the sheets directly from your

computer. This website is filled with lots of great materials!

Graphic Organizers

This section will be reserved for graphic organizers of all sorts. I'll

include mostly ones for reading, but will add others that are good to

use with other subjects as well. If you have some to share with

everyone, simply email them to me and I'll post them online!

Hope you have a great year. Happy teaching!
