Mortgage-Hill Farm

WELCOME

Thank you for your interest in Mortgage-Hill  Dairy Goats. I currently live on a small acre farm outside of Lafayette Indiana. I have been raising and breeding Dairy Goats for 24 years, first under the watchful eye of my mother, where she used the herd name Mortgage-Hill for her Nubians and I used M/H for my La Manchas. Which M/H is just the abbreviated form of Mortgage-Hill. When my mother decided it was time for her to try other things that life has to offer, I took over the herd prefix of Mortgage-Hill. And this day I share the pleasure of sharing the Dairy Goats with my twin daughters, Madison and Maci. They have been showing and helping since they were 2 years of age. I have a small line bred herd of La Manchas. I have used Lucky*Star bloodlines almost my entire time breeding La Manchas. Sixteen years ago my mother got in touch with Don and Judi Hoy and was so impressed with the quality and consistency of there animals that she knew where she was going to get my first La Manchas from. A BIG THANK YOU to Don and Judi! And to this day, I still use Lucky*Star’s bloodlines. But for  the past several years I have had the wonderful pleasure of knowing Rex and Barbara Backus from Quixote La Manchas. They have entrusted me with some beautiful animals that I am forever grateful for the opportunity that Rex and Barbara bestowed on me, and hope they are just as pleased with me as I am with them!! THANK YOU Barbara and Rex!! By using Quixote and Lucky*Star bloodlines I have gotten overall improvement of mammary systems, general appearance, dairy character and structural soundness. Not to mention body capacity and breed character. I do use other lines, which include Winterwood’s, Kastdemur’s and One Oak Hill. A few years back also brings in more of the "earred ones", as i like to call them. My daughters and my mother have decided to acquire some Oberhaslis and Alpines. My mother has always loved the Oberhasli breed, and then when we moved all in together, the LaManchas rekindled her love for Dairy Goats, and she decided with my daughters help I might add, that we needed Oberhaslis. I want to thank the herds that have helped us aquire our foundation stock for this breed, Mary Birkey- Hoosier- Farm, Hollianne Jacobs, for Peaches, who started this all. The Alpines that we have were going to be the start of an Alpine herd. But have sense decided to not add another breed, and they will be bred Oberhasli. The Alpines bloodlines are Kickapoo Valley, Iron Rod, Rainbow Colors, just to name a few. Now comes 2007 and the addition of yet more earred ones,, Nubians! As I stated earlier my mother had Nubians several years back and when looking in the Dairy Goat journal she ran accross a herd that was using the lines she had used back in the day, so to make a long story short, along came the addition of the Nubians! A big thank you to Josiah and Jody from J2K Caprio Nubians, for the "restart".

I also want to take this time to thank all my friends in the "goat world" and "real world", without you i would be lost! Thank you for all you have done and will do! There are several here i would like to mention, but there isn't enough room!

All goats over a year of age are given CD&T boosters every 3 months. All animals are given a Bo-Se shot as needed. Along with trimming hooves every month, I feed my goats twice a day and they are turned out in a lot to graze at their leisure. And the herd in locked up at night. I treat and prevent coccidiosis all year round with my herd by treating their drinking water with Albon, every 2 months in the fall and winter and every month during the summer and spring. I feed a high quality third cutting alfalfa  hay free choice all year long. Any animal that is purchased from me I strongly recommend maintaining my schedule of care and vaccinations.

LIVE SERVICE

I do Not offer live service to our bucks, BUT from time to time i do have semen available for sale.

GUARDIANS

I currently use the method of predator control by using 2 Doberman Pinchers by the names of Zeus and Hades. They are 7years of age and run the perimeter of the goat lots, and run the entire goat lots of and evening and night. And I can’t forget the guardians of the house, Red Dog and Joplin. Red Dog is a Miniature Pincher and Joplin is a Blue Doberman Pincher. With out all of these we would be lost. So it is safe to say that we here are in the best of hands, err paws. This year brings in one more "helper", a Great Pry puppy, named Moses. He has proven himself even at his young age to be a great guardian.
