This section will be kept updated as time allows during our hectic kidding schedule.
This kidding season started in December with Kitty delivering twin does on her due date. With close to 50 does to kid out this year our hands are full. Sparky (Fullblood Boer) and Achilles (Purebred Nubian) will be used in Feb/March for late Summer kids.
Bucks used were William (Boer/Saanen), Bo (Fullblood Boer), Rudolph Valentino-P (registered Polled Purebred Nubian), Boomer (15/16ths Boer) and Achilles (Purebred registered Nubian). All these bucks can be found in the Buck's page. We lost Boomer to Entero before we had a chance to use him very heavily. As a result he only produced 4 viable kids for us. Two bucks and two does. Sancho and Pumpkin were born in August of 2007 to Peach Blossom and his second set of buck/doe twins were born to Rosaline in January.

Kitty (12/21/07)
{1/2 Boer, 1/16 LaMancha/Alpine, 1/16 Pygmy, 6/16 unknown}
Kitty {1/8 Lamancha/Alpine, 1/8 Pygmy, 6/8 unknown} kicked the kidding season off on her due date. She was actually the second doe bred. Twyla was bred by Bo {Boer} a short while before Kitty was put in with him. I checked her before heading down to feed the other goats and figured I had about 45 minutes before she kidded. I was correct, but was not there for the delivery. Dad arrived around 4:15PM to find one doeling already on the ground. Chores took longer than I expected. The firstborn doe is being left on Kitty and the second born has been taken for CAE Prevention. Neither is likely to be available.

Twyla (12/25/07)
{3/4 Boer, 1/4 Nubian}
Twyla {Boer} did it again. She aparently loves Christmas Day as this is the second year in a row she has held out to deliver boys on Christmas Day. This year she was settled to Bo {Boer} and delivered two good sized bucks. We will most likley retain the first buck for breeding purposes and the second will be available as a wether unless interest is shown very shortly for him intact. I had so hoped for a little doeling in there since this was our only chance to breed her to Bo, but her son provides a suitable continuance for Bo's genetics.

Nibbles (12/26/07)
{Nubian}
Nibbles (Nubian) did not kid for us last year. Her bout with Bottle Jaw the Summer prior affected her reproductive health that following Fall. I had high hopes for her this year. She was a second freshening coming 7 year old at this stage. She was settled to Achilles (Nubian). She spent most of the last week of her pregnancy just sitting like a dog. Not getting up and moving much. She went into labor on my older sister's birthday and finally, after I had stayed home from the party, she delivered three doelings that evening. The first and third born are being raised on prevention and are available. The second born was left on Nibbles.

Jane Doe (12/28/06)
{Nubian}
Jane Doe (Nubian) simply did not look all that heavy bred. She was settled to Achilles (Nubian) and waited until I was a half hour drive away before delivering her singleton. Dad happened to be home and was showing my cousin the goats and kids. He did one last check and she had feet presenting. Other than that there were no signs she was in active labor. She delivered a beautiful pale blonde buckling. He is not paperable. He will be castrated here soon unless someone shows interest in him intact.

Liza (12/31/07)
{1/2 Nubian, 1/4 Boer, 1/4 Alpine}
Liza (1/2 Boer, 1/2 Alpine) was a doe I had not planned on having bred to Achilles (Nubian). Achilles had other plans, however, and ended up settling a couple of our Boer cross does for the end of December kids. Liza's twin bucks were the first result of those pairings. We lost one early on and so she is raising just the one. Despite being only 1/4 Boer he is a stout, quick growing lad. He will be castrated and made available.

Lil' Bunny Foo Foo (1/2/08)
{9/16 Nubian, 5/16 Boer, 1/32 Lamancha/Alpine, 1/32 Saanen, 1/16 unknown}
Lil' Bunny Foo Foo {5/8 Boer, 1/8 Nubian, 1/16 LaMancha/Alpine, 1/16 Saanen, 1/8 unknown} was another Boer cross doe who settled to Achilles {Nubian} during the time he kept getting in with the doe herd. True to her family's form she delivered her doeling first and her buckling second. The doeling was taken for Prevention and the buckling has been left on his dam. I saw him coming out and was sooo hoping he was a little girl as he is just beautiful! The doeling may already be spoken for. The buckling is available as a wether.

Star Baby (1/3/08)
{13/16 Nubian, 1/16 Pygmy, 1/8 unknown}
Star Baby {5/8 Nubian, 1/8 Pygmy, 1/4 unknown} was another doe I had not intended to have bred to Achilles {Nubian} due to the Pygmy in her background. Dad was there when she delivered and she was so eager to clean off her first born that we simply left her to it. Last year, Star Baby had a nightmare delivery when I was away in Kansas. It was the first time in our 8+ years of having kids born that the vet had to be called out to assist. So to say we were anxious about her delivery this year is a bit of an understatement. She had no problems delivering her twin does. The firstborn has been left on her and the second is being raised on prevention. Neither is available.

Talia (1/5/08)
{Nubian}
Talia {Nubian} delivered on a day when I was incredibly ill. Again, dad was present for the delivery. I told him to decide which doeling to take for prevention. She delivered two black doelings out of Achilles {Nubian}. She was not a diligent first time mother to her secondborn. She had to be held for the first few weeks and even today the doeling prefers to nurse from behind than from bside her. She's the pretty child that the mother tolerates. Talia does call to her and is motherly at this point, but she was slow to come around. She does have a very nice milking udder and did quite well on the stand. Talia was the first of Rudy-P's daughters to kid. The first born doeling is available without papers currently. I need to track down some paperwork before I can offer her with her papers. She will be papered at the very least as 75%, but could be Purebred or American depending on what I can track down.

French Kiss (1/8/08)
{15/16 Nubian, 1/16 LaMancha/Alpine}
French Kiss {7/8 Nubian, 1/8 LaMancha/Alpine} kidded in the half hour I was away from the barn. I figured I had at least an hour before she got down to business. Thankfully she delivered twin bucks. After seeing their colors though I so wish one had been a girl. She was settled to Achilles {Nubian} and I likely will repeat the breeding this Fall in hopes for some stunning doelings next time around.

Persphone (1/9/08)
{5/8 Boer, 1/8 Saanen, 3/16 Nubian, 1/16 LaMancha/Alpine}
Persephone {1/4 Boer, 1/4 Saanen, 3/8 Nubian, 1/8 LaMancha/Alpine} was settled to Bo {Boer} and did a fine job of delivering a beautiful set of buck and doe twins. The doe is being raised on Prevention and possibly available. The buckling would make a fine market wether. Her wethers are beautiful, growthy creatures.

Elegance (1/9/08)
{7/8 Nubian, 1/8 LaMancha/Alpine}
Elegance (3/4 Nubian, 1/4 LaMancha/Alpine} decided kidding the same day as daughter, Persephone seemed like a good plan. She was settled to Achilles {Nubian} and I had high hopes for Breed character. Elegance has always delivered an eared kid and an elf eared kid in each freshening. For the first two year the doelings wore the elf ears. Last year she delivered one doe of each. We retained the long eared doeling and sold the elf eared doeling. This year I had a long eared doeling in mind for a 4-Her so when the first to arrived was a long eared doeling she was quickly removed for prevention much to Elegance's dismay. Doeling number arrived shortly there after and Elegance was fine. The second born has elf ears, of course. Elegance was producing 6 pounds OAD with her doeling on when I milked her. She is one of my favorite milking does, if not the faovrite. Quick and easy to milk with a nice udder.

Esther (1/17/08)
{3/4 Nubian, 1/4 Nigerian Dwarf?}
Esther {Mini-Nubian?} was not supposed to be bred before October. She, along with Giselle and Piglet, are sold and will be a starter herd for a local farmer. Rudolph Valentino-P {Nubian} took matters into his own hooves. Just as he did last year with Esther. He broke out and ran with the does. Since she had been bred I attempted to breed her to Bo as well to try and have her settle to Bo. It did not work. She delivered a pair of buck/doe twins out of Rudy. The family unit has been sold.

Leda (1/19/08)
{3/4 Nubian, 1/4 Alpine}
Leda {1/2 Nubian, 1/2 Alpine} was another doe that Rudy-P {Nubian} bred the day he was out. She is one of a number of his daughters he bred. We exposed her to Bo as well. When I was bringing up close does to the barn she simply did not look, nor feel like a doe who was going to kid in the next week. Very little udder and I had not had a solid bump on her. She delivered her single buck kid at the goat pen during one of our coldest snaps and we lost him.

Moondust-P (1/19/08)
{3/4 Boer, 1/4 Nubian}
Moondust-P {1/2 Nubian, 1/2 Boer} was settled to Bo {Boer} and while in labor the power went out. I was in the barn with a dorklight on just to be able to see her give birth. She delivered a striking buckling and then a beautiful polled doeling. The buckling is available as a 4-H wether and the doeling is currently on the retain list.

Liliana {3/4 Nubian, 1/4 LaMancha/Alpine} was settled to Rudy-P {Nubian} and delivered twin bucklings. I had hoped to have a doeling to sell this year. Last year's daughter out of the two is quite nice. The ears are these boys are wonderful. How I wish at least one was a doe! Neither have been disbudded as a I got sick.

Jacueline {3/4 Nubian, 1/4 LaMancha/Alpine} was settled to Rudy-P {Nubian} for a repeat breeding in the hopes I would get a doeling this year. Maybe Jacqueline heard me discussing selling her this year? She delivered twins again. Two bucklings. The younger is naturally polled and the other has been disbudded.

Legacy-P (1/24/08)
{Nubian}
Legacy-P {American Nubian} was one I had really hoped had not settled. She was exposed to her sire Rudy-P {Nubian}. With goats there is the concern for hermaphroditism when a polled goat is bred to a polled goat. This was our first mishap. Our first polled to polled breeding. Legacy delivered a single polled "female." It was obvious at birth the doeling wasn't quite normal. We are fairly sure what we had was a Hermaphrodite. Unfortunately, the "doeling" was smothered in a kid pile on a cold day. She was very similar in appearnace to her dam and her granddam.

Frosty-P (1/24/08)
{1/2 Boer, 7/16 Nubian, 1/16 LaMancha/Alpine}
Frosty-P {7/8 Nubian, 1/8 LaMancha/Alpine} was another Rudy daughter I was worried he had settled. However, she took the day Bo {Boer} got out instead. She delivered a single buck kid without incidence and has been a wonderful mother. She even stood well for milking on the stand. A vast improvement her dam, Liliana, and older half sister, French Kiss. The buckling was not disbudded, unfortunately.

Kaili (1/25/08)
{Nubian (Rec. 50%)}
We had a large number of does due the 25th and 26th of January due to a Rudy escape. Unfortunately, I became ill the evening of the 24th and could barely drag myself to the barn the following morning. If I had been healthy I would have made it to the barn a good hour before I finally did. Kaili {grade Nubian} decided that delivering her twin doelings out of Rudy-P {Nubian} in the doorway in one of the coldest snaps we had was a brilliant idea. We lost the second born doeling that was outside despite our efforts at saving her. The surviving doe is naturally polled.

Giselle (1/25/08)
{1/2 Nubian, 1/2 Toggenburg}
Giselle {grade Toggenburg} is being sold this year along with her daughter, Piglet, and Esther. I intentionally bred her to Rudy-P {Nubian} in the hopes she would deliver a polled doleing for us to retain. Dad loves Giselle's looks and coloring and I had hoped for something similar in a package without the horns. I was still quite sick (it had only been a few hours afterall). Dad called and Giselle had delivered the first born, a doeling. He said if anything was going to be polled it would be that one. I didn't think so and so we gave her that doeling and I hoped for anotehr doeling. She did deliver another doeling, which I pulled for prevention. Only tor ealize dad was right. The firstborn was naturally polled and the one I had taken was horend. Since the farmer wants horns we gave her back her second born. We will bring our polled doeling home later this year after she is weaned. Giselle and her other daughter are sold.

Fern (1/26/08)
{1/2 Nubian, 1/4 Kiko, 1/8 LaMancha/Alpine, 1/8 Saanen}
Dad checked the does before going in to wash milk things and the bulk tank. Fern {1/2 Kiko, 1/4 LaMancha/Alpine, 1/4 Saanen} was at that feeder eating hay. When he came out one half hour later she had two doelings on the ground. I was thrilled. Two doelings out of Bo and Fern. Her wethers with Bo the past two years have been the most impressive. Fast forward to when I disbud. The first doeling, despite being a month old (I had been sick) had such small horns. I got ahold of the second and just could not figure out why she seemed to be naturally polled. I rechecked my kidding sheet and realized she had been exposed to both Bo and Rudy-P {Nubian}. The polled doeling is obviously Rudy's and the other had such dainty horns she must also be. I was disbudding Bo daughters that were three weeks younger and had larger horns than her.

Gemini (1/26/08)
{3/4 Nubian, 1/4 Alpine & 1/4 Boer, 1/4 Saanen, 1/4 Nubian, 1/4 Alpine}
Gemini {1/2 Nubian, 1/2 Alpine}, another Rudy daughter, was exposed to Rudy-P {Nubian} when he got out. We put her with William {Boer/Saanen} in the hopes she would settle to him instead. When I arrived at the barn there was a tiny lack kid behind Bianca....huh? Bianca is settled to Bo and not due for another week and a half. I noticed Gemini at that point. Collected the little polled black doeling and put them in a pen. Gemini then gave birth to a Boer doeling...so she had settled to both Rudy and William. We lost the first doeling a month old to pnuemonia. The second doeling is being raised on prevention and is probably reserved.

I was just ready to start feeding and I hear a doe crying in distress. I looked around in the barn and realized Rosaline {5/8 Boer, 1/8 Saanen, 1/8 Pygmy, 1/8 unknown} was not there. She was out, in the snow, in the cold, trying to deliver her first kid into or through the fence. I grabbed her and the buck kid she had delivered and brought them inside. She then delivered a beautiful little doeling who I took for prevention. Rosaline was the only doe I had a chance to breed to Boomer {15/16 Boer, 1/16 unknown} before we lost him. She had also been exposed to Rudy-P so there was some concern we would not have any Boomer babies out of her. The twins are beautiful and obviously Boomer's. I do wish I had more out of him. We are retaining the doeling. The buckling did not get disbudded, unfortunately.

I prefer to be done kidding by the end of March at the latest. Concerns about coccidiosis and worms are higher as the Spring comes on. The kids also aren't as big when I let the herd out on the 80 acres. However, I cannot control everything and so a number of does kidded in April and May.
Snow White (4/1/07)
{1/2 Saanen, 1/4 Boer, 1/4 LaMancha/Alpine}
to
Snow White (1/2 LaMancha/Alpine, 1/2 Saanen) kidded in the afternoon on the 1st of April. She was due in late March. The breeding of her and William (1/2 Boer, 1/2 Saanen) has produced at least two daughters that I just love. I was ecstatic about the idea of selling a doeling out of the two. She delivered twin bucks, of course. Neither is available. This breeding will likely be repeated again next year.

I held out this year and she kidded around 5AM. She was settled to Bo (Boer) and delivered the doeling and then the buckling. Same order her dam, Milky Way, delivers her kids. to
Urusla (Nubian) was one of the few who actually settled to Rudy (polled Nubian) as planned. My older niece, as well as, one of her friends were able to wtines the birth of Ursula's twins. She delivered a striking brown and white doeling and then a brown buckling. The doeling was whisked away to her new home in PA less than 24 hours later. From the looks of her, I believe she is polled. I need to catch up with the new owner to be sure. The buckling was disbudded and will be castrated on the 30th if not claimed for breeding before then.
