After poor old Prior departed, England selectors decided for the New Zealand tour to have two wicket keepers, one for test matches in the form of Tim Ambrose and Colonel Mustard for ODI'S, to me this does not make a huge deal of sense.
Next to the captain the keeper is the one on the field who is supposed to motivate the whole team, exceesive clapping, mindless yelling of nicknames etc... So by having two keepers represting one country and one team surely can not be good, now I know the test team and the ODI team are different, but in my opinion trying to merge theses two teams would work a lot better, there is hardly any difference in the test side and the ODI side in the Australian line up for example.
So now the big question, Mustard or Ambrose?.....Not Mustard for ODI, Ambrose for test, which one for England?
The BBC cricket site nearly always contains something to do with Flintoff's recovery, today's little media interview was headlined: Flintoff confident of full recovery.
Of course we want our big hitting, 90mph Freddie back, and it is looking ever more certain that he will play at Lord's, therefore the question is: where the hell to put him in the batting order? To me there seems three possibilities, play him at 6, though then you have a problem of where to put Collingwood and Ambrose, you can't leave Collingwood out can you?
My favourite is to stick him at 7 as a bowling all rounder, a good flashy number 7 is bound to come in handy, though this means dropping a bowler and putting Ambrose at 8...who I think is better than that position, then you can swap Ambrose and Freddie around, Freddie at 8, Ambrose at 7, either way, one bowler will have to go or one batsman......then again we could just leave Flintoff out for good, any ideas?
My dear old Grandfather is a supporter of Hampshire, yes that team who did so brilliantly in the Friends Provident......
His team however are in a bit of a mess, Shane Warne has gone, Michael Carberry is a definate England future and a permanet name on the England Lions squad list, Shan Udal has left for Middlesex, James Bruce has retired, Maschernas is of for the IPL and a frequent member of the England team...Though hardly playing, the keeper Pothas has also left, Tremlett is in the same position as Maschernas, excluding the IPL of course.
It all seems rather a mess, though they are singning the nearly always injuired Shane Watson, who judging by his record should be kept in a sponge room. It appears though this is happening in nearly every county, Somerset have lost Langer to the IPL for instance, the Surrey manager has responded to what I am now calling madness, saying that in response to the IPL we need to restructure the game as a whole in this country, where is all this leading?
