Lorenzo Brino - Nikolas Brino
|
Lorenzo Brino
Birthday: September 3, 1998 Birth Place: Woodland Hills, California, USA Birth Name: Lorenzo Brino
Biography: The Brino quadruplets were destined to be stars. They certainly were born under a lucky one. Three-year-old Nikolas, Lorenzo, Zachary and Myrinda Brino were the products of in-vitro fertilization, a technique that is costly but offers no guarantees. Their parents won that treatment as a raffle prize at an infertility conference, one their mother tricked their reluctant father into attending. And as infants, they won the roles of Sam and David on The WB's ``7th Heaven,'' a top-rated drama about a minister's family. ``They think everybody is on TV,'' said mother Shawna Brino, who from July through April hits the road at 5 a.m. two or three times a week to get the quads from their desert Kern County home to the Santa Monica set in time for 7:30 a.m. calls. The work on ``7th Heaven'' came about by chance. While Shawna was in the hospital for four months during her pregnancy, she became friends with the mother of the triplets who portrayed Phoebe's infants on NBC's blockbuster series ``Friends.'' Through the triplets' mother, the ``7th Heaven'' producers found out about the quads and called the Brinos Lorenzo is a quadruplet. Brother of Nikolas,Zachary and Myrinda Brino Started acting when he was five months old when he got the role of Sam and David Camden on 7th heaven There parents were not going to put them on the show at first but they thought they would give it a try thinking they were only going to be on the show a couple of times. Nikolas Brino
Birthday: September 3, 1998 Birth Place: Woodland Hills, California, USA Birth Name: Nikolas Brino
``I didn't even know the show,'' Shawna Brino said. ``At first we weren't going to do it. They were small and life was crazy.'' Then the couple - an Edwards Air Force Base technician and a full-time homemaker - decided they would give it a try. ``We thought it would be cute for them to look back on and we thought it was only going to be a couple of times (appearing on the show),'' Shawna Brino said. Their pay is going into a trust fund to pay for college, she said. Expecting to find standoffish Hollywood types, the Brinos were surprised at the set's family-like atmosphere. The real-life daughter of Catherine Hicks, who portrays mother Annie Camden, plays with the quads. Barry Watson, who plays oldest son, Matt, swings them around in ``airplane rides.'' A favorite place is the studio schoolroom, where co-star MacKenzie Rosman, who plays Ruthie, is tutored. A major attraction are the girl's pet rats, Dixie and Babe. ``They like to go into MacKenzie's room because she has rats. We have to go and look at the rats,'' Shawna Brino said. From MacKenzie's teacher, the quads picked up the Yiddish expression ``oy vey'' and use it when something's not right. The quads seem like naturals for other jobs, such as modeling and TV commercials, but the Brinos say they have no desire to shuttle their children to auditions or hire an agent. Working on a TV show is enough. ``As long as it's play and as long as they have fun, we'll do it,'' Shawna Brino said of the show. ``I don't want them to burn out on this.'' Brenda Hampton, the creator and executive producer of ``7th Heaven,'' calls the youngsters ``cute, sweet and very smart.'' ``They were hired as extras and we could have swapped them out, but we kept the Brino quads because they are the most wonderful children on earth,'' Hampton said. The quads are handled on the set by a ``baby wrangler.'' Shawna Brino waits in their trailer during filming. ``The mom is so calm that the kids are easy-going,'' Hampton said. In their first two seasons on the show, all four babies were featured interchangeably. But because they are all developing their own distinctive looks, this season Nikolas plays Sam and Lorenzo plays David, although Zachary and Myrinda occasionally stand in for shots when the twins are in the background of a scene. Like their chance encounter with Hollywood, the quads' journey to life was assisted with a bit of luck, too. For three years, Tony and Shawna tried just about everything, from home remedies to fertility treatments, to get conceive a baby. Then at a Lancaster fertility seminar - which Shawna tricked Tony into attended by telling him it was a real estate seminar - they won a raffle for an $8,500 in-vitro fertilization cycle. Shawna Brino gave birth at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Woodland Hills in September 1998, almost a year after the raffle allowed them to try a procedure they had considered, but could not afford. Tony's son, Antonio, from a previous marriage, moved in with them that same year. ``We went from just the two of us to five kids. There was a big change in the grocery bill,'' Shawna said. Antonio, now 19, is attending the Coast Guard Academy. The first year was hard, the Brinos said. Shawna Brino's mother came from Colorado to help for a while and a family friend came over to assist with feedings, but for the most part, the Brinos have kept the outside assistance to a minimum. Tony and Shawna just recently had an evening out by themselves for the first time in four years. They went to see Al Jarreau sing at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center. But they wouldn't trade the time they're spent with their brood for anything. ``We wanted to do it ourselves,'' Shawna Brino said. ``I didn't want to miss anything. I wanted to be there to be the first to see them laugh.'' Thanks to the Los Angeles Daily News for this biography, this appeared in a March 5, 2002 edition of the LA Daily News.
