There are many band fan clubs out there, and most of them are not that great. That is not the case with the Metallica Club. I have been a member of many other bands' fan club and needless to say, I didn't renew. You pay your $40 or whatever and they send you a flyer twice a year, wow. Not so with the Metallica Club. I have been a member since 1996 and have never let my membership slip. This club is totally different from all the others, mainly because of the direct interaction between the Band members and fans. You see, the club was started by the band, not some "guy in an office." The Metallica Club is THE best fanclub out there, the interaction between the Band is what makes the club great. Ever dreamt of chatting with James, Lars, Kirk or Rob? It can happen.

MEET AND GREET LOTTERY BACKSTAGE PASS PROCEDURE

From Metclub.com:

Basically, not much has changed - passes will still be given out lottery style to give all Clubbers a fair and equal chance. What has changed is that we will be doing it online, so you will know before the show if you have won a pass or not. Then you simply go to the club booth the day of the show to check in and find out exactly what time the meet and greet will be, which is still before Metallica goes on stage . . . that part hasn't changed either.

MEET AND GREET PASS RULES

You may enter to win a meet and greet pass at as many shows as you like, but remember that you can only win once per tour. Choose wisely - if you win a pass for a date that you will not be at, you may not win again for the remainder of the tour. Only one pass will be given out per clubber - sorry, no guests backstage. You must be an active Club Member in good standing to win a meet and greet pass. YOU MAY ONLY WIN ONE PASS PER TOUR, AND THE PASS IS NOT TRANSFERABLE - RIGHT NOW THAT INCLUDES THE EUROPEAN AND SUMMER SANITARIUM DATES.

If you win a pass, you will receive more details in the confirmation e-mail. But the basics are: you must check in at the Met Club booth the day of the show at least three and a half hours before Metallica goes on stage - check with your local promoter, venue, etc. to get set times as they change daily. We will be choosing alternates, so if you win, but don't show up on time, your pass will be given to another clubber.

So what does that mean? Well, since they are doing it online, I think it gives each metclub member an even better chance of getting a backstage pass to THE SHOW OF THEIR CHOICE. If you want to take advantage of this, Join the club!

Did you happen to watch mtvICON: Metallica? If so, you probably noticed a lot of people in the "pit" and the fans onstage. Guess who these lucky folks were: Metclub members! That's right, local LA Metclub members were in the pit and onstage to pay tribute to Metallica.
