Rules
Conduct
First of all always respect other rpers. No matter if they are a lower rank then you. This is the most important rule. Even though you may be above someone, rank wise that is, doesn't mean you can't get in trouble for treating them wrong. This is expected in every rping place I ahve been. If you find one where this is not expected you can most likely asume that the place is almost anarchy. Example below.
Wrong
Monkey: Get out of here you idiot! You can't rp.
Right
Monkey: Hey man you should get better at rping. I know some sites that can help.
Out of Character & Back in Character
When not making a roleplaying post at a roleplaying board it's best to put the post with OOC:text before it or put the post in ((text))'s. This always makes things easier for the other people on the board to differ an ooc post from a rp post. Some people are very strict on this rule and you should follow it tightly. Also there is Bic:text or just text. Posts like these are taken as rping posts. Example below.
OOC: Hey Guys this is my last post.
Bic: Luke drew level with his brother Kindare. The two wolfs growled at the opponent at hand.
Power Playing and God Moding
These two things are the most hated things with in the world of roleplay. Power playing is when you roleplay someone elses character without their permission. This is very hard to resist in battle scenes. Power playing is allowed but only if the person who is rping the other character approves of it. In most cases it's best to have your character attempt to do the action you want them to. Example below.
Wrong
Kindare leapt at Icewolf, pinning him to the ground.
Right
Kindare leapt into the air at Icewolf, atempting to pin him down.
God moding is when you make your character all powerful. Invincible characters are no fun to rp for anyone. You may enjoy having a character that can pick on anyone and get away with it but remember there is always someone stronger. All of my characters have flaws and sometimes can be funny in rps. Example below.
Wrong
Tai let Kai stab him with his claws. Then Tai simply smashed his paw into Kai and broke his skull.
Right
Tai looked shcked at the claws of Kai within his chest. He fell backwards, bleeding sorely.
Making Characters
Creating a character is of course the most important thing in an rp. A character can be like you or someone you know. When rping a chracter things can happen to change how the act and look. Don't try to make your character stay the same their whole life.
Species
The first thing you need to know is what species you'll be roleplaying. Also you need to know if you are expected to half you character be unlike others of their kind. for example I roleplay wolves. Yet these wolves half wings and can talk to one another. As you can see they are different from normal wolves. Also my chracters have elements known as spirits. In most rp places liek the one I am in you have to earn your wings and spirits.
Name
The name of your character canr eflect who they are and how they act. Yet it may just be a name left at that. Sometimes, like in the example of my chracter Savage, a character may have forgotten their name and call themselves an old nickname. Names don't have to be normal like the character in my book named Shanto. Not many people are named that are they?
Eye Color; Fur/Hair Color; Wing Color
This is very important in developing your character. Appearnace is very important in what kind of allies and friends your character has. A wolf with white fur and fierce yellow eyes could be thought of as a leader or a strong ally. Wing color should be similar to the fur color. Yet it does not have to be exactly the same.
Age and Gender
Age and gender are both things that you should consider carefully. I recomend that your character's starting age be young. That way you have much time to develope them into a very interesting person. Gender of course is usually a choice between male and female. The character's gender can determine how they act and who their firends are.
Relations
This is just a useful thing to put in your character statistics. For instance if characterA is already in a relationship with characterB then characterC's roleplayer can look at characterA's stats and avoid making a possibly embarassing mistake for both them and their character. Also having this in the statistics can tell of siblings and parents.
Special Marks and Features
Special marks can show that chraracters are in certain groups. Such as my group of wolves known as the Defenders. Their mark is made of gold and is a viper curked around a dagger. Marks can have history or could change meaning. Also a mark may be a reminder of a past injury or even such as a scar. Special features are anything that unusual. Such as my character Infernus. He is a wolf who has a curse that has made his tail burn for eternity.
Personality and History
This is something you need to take time on. Personality can be based on the history the character has lived. If a character has lived a rough life they may be cold and heartless. The personality can decide how the character reacts to things or how they act to other characters. A history though can be anything. Yet to have too many characters with sad pasts can be boring. Always try to add difference between your characters.
