Frequently asked questions

What exactly is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is not a trick and it is not magic. It is simply an effective, therapeutic tool to faciltate the client in improving their quality of life. The therapist works with the client, at the clients' own pace and most definitely cannot make the client do anything that they do not want to do. It is a method of deep relaxation that enables the therapist to access the subconscious mind and make suggestions at the clients' request.

Is it dangerous?

Hypnosis is not dangerous when it is carried out by an appropriately trained and insured practitioner. Any person considering hypnotherapy should ensure that the practitioner they choose is affiliated to one or more of the main hypnotherapy associations. These associations include:

The Hypnotherapy Association

The National Council for Hypnotherapy

Both these organisations have lists of reputable practitioners and should be a clients' first port of call when choosing a practitioner.

How long will it take?

Each client is an individual and therefore it is impossible to state categorically how long a course of treatment might take. It could range from a one off session for smoking cessation up to 10-12 sessions for more complex issues such as agoraphobia or obsessive compulsive disorder. Your therapist will discuss your needs with you.

Can I bring a friend?

Absolutely. There should be no bar on any client bringing a friend or family member with them for support.
