Welcome to the Model Congress Website!

MIDWOOD'S MODEL CONGRESS CONVENTION 2004
has officially been scheduled for:

Friday, March 26th -Through-  Sunday, March 28th

Model Congress, one of the most interesting and prestigious clubs at Midwood.  There weren't too many meetings during the year, is holding its thirty-third annual convention on the last weekend in March this year. I am inviting all Midwood students to attend the Model Congress Convention at Midwood HS that will be held from Friday, March 26th through Sunday, March 28th. At the convention, Midwood students will be gathering with students from other schools, some of which usually include Madison HS, John Dewey, and Shepshead Bay. We will be mimicking the congress for one weekend, debating on proposed bills that will be or have been recently presented at the Congress. Some of the topics we will be debating include: the war on iraq, the war on terror, immigration laws, national security, airport security, foreign relations, abortion, euthanasia, marijuana, and many more. There will also be guest speakers that are prominent figures in New York's political sector, such as Councillman Owens. In this way, students get a chance to meet the people we are mimicking up close.

The convention is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about politics, debate interesting issues, voice thier opinions, and earn service credit in the short time period of one weekend at Midwood. For attending the congress, on this one weekend, you will receive 20 - 25 service credits AND you can place Model Congress on your college application as one of the extra-curricular activities you participated in at Midwood HS (This looks really great on a college application!)

If you decide to join us at the convention in Midwood, the attendance fee is $25. Here are the times:

Fri, March 26: 2:00 till 5:00 (dinner will be provided)
Sat, March 27: 9:00 till 5:00 (breakfast, lunch, and dinner will possibly be provided)
Sun, March 28: 9:00 till 12:30

So, please, come join us for a weekend at the Convention to debate regarding pressing issues that affect American society as well as the entire world in this new twenty-first century.

If you are interesting in attending or have any questions or comments, please feel free to email the club's leaders, Mary C. Pennisi (uniquepoet@msn.com), Anna (annat1226@yahoo.com), or contact Mr. Rothstein (who can be found in the Court Room during periods 2 through 7).

With your support and participation, Model Congress 2004 will be THE BEST!
Thank you,
Mary C. Pennisi
Over-All Chairperson
