Mid-Michigan Golden Retriever Club

MMGRC

Our History

Mid-Michigan Golden Retriever Club was founded in 1997.  The idea for
forming an AKC licensed specialty club was conceived on the way to a dog
show.   When we got back from the dog show, a group of area golden retriever
fanciers met in Midland, Michigan to initiate the formation of a golden
retriever specialty club that became know as the Mid-Michigan Golden
Retriever Club(MMGRC).  The next year was spent recruiting members.  In February of 1999, we started holding regular meetings.  Our monthly meetings alternated between locations in Midland, Michigan and Mount Pleasant, Michigan. As the membership continuing to grow, a formal slate of officers and board members were inducted.

A majority of our membership actively exhibits in conformation, obedience,
and agility and a number of member households are home to champion and
obedience-and agility-titled golden retrievers.  Many are also members of
the Golden Retriever Club of America and regularly attend our breed's
national specialty.  They are also active in their area all-breed clubs and
bring a wealth of resources to our club, which will prove valuable, when we
start to hold licensed specialties and obedience trials.

The club has held a handling seminar; programs on golden retriever rescue
and agility; and a number of B/OB-sanctioned matches.  We also have a
puppy/breeder referral program.  Our club has also donated copies of
"Complete Dog Book for Kids" to area elementary schools and libraries to
educate children about the dog fancy.

It is the goal of the club to become an AKC licensed specialty club and
Golden Retriever Club of America Member Club.  The club is also interested
in becoming involved in field work in the near future.  We are currently
B-sanctioned and hope to hold our first A/OA sanctioned match next year.  We
are looking for golden retriever fanciers to come join our ranks.  For
membership information, contact Sharon Mudgett at (989) 835-7887 or email at
