Martin Luther King Jr: A Global Thinker

Introduction

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15th, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He worked tirelessly in the Civil Rights and Peace Movements, until he was assasinated in 1968. He was a religious leader, a father, and a friend.

When one thinks of Dr. King, what comes to mind? Most likely it is his exceptional accomplishments for the African American race. But Dr. King did so much more that is often overlooked! He was a global thinker, a man who thought of things outside his immediate life. He examined ideas from other viewpoints. He traveled different places, and lived outside his own life and his own world. Today, it's so easy to get caught up in ourselves, focusing on school and work and day-to-day things. Dr. King didn't do this. He was able to see the big picture, and work toward achieving those goals. And he didn't put anything before achieving these goals. Dr. King said at one point, "Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land." This shows that Dr. King was more than just a global thinker. He was a universal thinker. An unselfish thinker.
