There are many benefits to living in a diverse society. Some major ones are listed here:
Different kinds of people look at situations in different ways. It is always good to see many views of something.
Different people also have different kinds of knowledge. This results in a generally smarter, and more well-rounded society.
Also, one can look to his or her neighbor for advice or another take on a situation. If we are surrounded by different people we are also surrounded by different possible experiences. In a diverse neighborhood, a girl could learn to make Swedish cookies with one friend, and visit a Bat Mitzvah with another. Then the girl in turn could teach her friends about her culture!
Finally, it is good to be diverse to avoid sameness. Imagine if everyone were forty years old! We would be without the wisdom of the elderly and the energy of the youth. Life would be boring!
