Members of the International Advisory Board of the Malaysian Journal of Educational Technology

MARK BULLEN - CANADA - I am the Associate Dean of the Learning & Teaching Centre (LTC) at the BC Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Vancouver, Canada. The mandate of the LTC is to support learning and teaching at BCIT by assisting with the development of curriculum and promoting the effective use of technology for teaching and learning. The Learning & Teaching Centre has a staff of over 60 instructional designers, technical writers, graphic designers, desktop and web publishers, media producers and technical support personnel. My main areas of responsibility are curriculum and instructor development and educational research and innovation. I have a Ph.D. in Adult Education (1997), a Masters degree in Educational Psychology (1989) and a B.Ed. (1982) from the University of British Columbia. I am also a graduate of the BCIT Diploma of Technology in Broadcast Journalism (1977). Phone: 604 454 2280

GILLY SALMON - UNITED KINGDOM - Gilly joined the University of Leicester in the UK in 2004 as Professor of E-learning & Learning Technologies to head the Beyond Distance Research Alliance, after 15 years with the Open University Business School. She is known for her research and practice in the arenas of development and change for creating engaged and successful e-learning processes. Her focus is on designing for participation and intervening for learning using the best of networked technologies. Her current research spans the role of ICT in enabling change in Higher Education, through the development of research-led e-learning strategy, to pedagogical innovation in a wide variety of forms including mobile learning, wikis and blogs. Gilly has two research degrees - one in online training and one in change in education. She is known for her many articles and commentary about the future for learning technologies and as an international speaker. Prof Salmon is the author of the work now considered seminal in the field of teaching online called 'E-moderating', a 2nd Edition of which was produced in 2004, as well as a recent book about designing for low cost collaboration in all online learning situations called 'E-tivities'. MAJA PIVEC - AUSTRIA -  Maja Pivec completed her PhD at the Graz University of Technology. At the present she is lecturing in Learning with Multimedia and Game-Based Learning at the University of Applied Sciences FH JOANNEUM in Graz, Austria. Her research is focused on game based learning, adaptable e-learning systems, knowledge management, and multimedia knowledge modules. For her research achievements Maja Pivec received in the year 2001 Herta Firnberg Award (Austria) in the field of computer science. In the year 2003 she received the European Science Foundation Grant to organise an Exploratory Workshop on Affective and Emotional Aspects of Human-Computer Interaction: Emphasis on Game-Based and Innovative Learning Approaches. Her research work was published and presented at more than 70 international conferences and publications. She is the project co-ordinator of the EU E-Learning Initiative project called SIG-GLUE - Special Interest Group for Game Based Learning in Universities (2004 - 2006, www.sig-glue.net). SANJAYA MISHRA - INDIA - holds a Ph.D. in library and information science in the area of library networks. He has been a teacher of communication technology to distance educators. He has been involved in successful implementation of many multimedia and Internet based courses. With professional training in distance education, television production and multimedia, he is actively involved in collaboration at international level. At present, he is reader in distance education at the staff training and research institute of distance education, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. He also served (2001-2003) the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia at New Delhi as a programme officer, where he conducted a number of workshops on ‘multimedia’ and ‘e-learning’ in the Asian region. He has served as consultant to UNESCO, UN-ESCAP, World Bank and the Commonwealth of Learning. He was book review editor of Indian Journal of Open Learning from 1997-2000 and also edited few special issues of the same journal. He is author/editor of 10 books and has contributed more than 75 research papers in reputed professional journals. He is one of the founder editors of the Asian Journal of Distance Education. He co-edited the Idea Group Inc. publication Interactive Multimedia in Education and Training in 2005. He received the University Silver Medal for Best Research Paper for his work entitled ‘Roles and Competencies of Academic Counsellors in Distance Education’ published in Open Learning in 2005.
