Some Dreams Never Die

Night Owl Romance

Night Owl Romance: Reviewer Top Pick

It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Or so the saying goes. But is it true ? What about if you’ve loved but never been love in return? What then? Gray Baldwin has spent his entire life looking to be loved. When he stumbles into Mt. Bishop, New York he thinks he might finally have found a place to land permanently.

Hope Hanwell is the pampered, spoiled and self-centered daughter of Gray’s boss, Ted. But she sets her sights on Gray, but not with any real concern, just to use to lose her virginity and use before she moves away to go to beauty school.

Ms. Pike paints a heartfelt and poignant picture of the realities of life and love. Gray and Hope are so well defined that you’ll swear you know someone just like them. The plot will have you laughing and crying by turns and have your heart breaking right along with the cast of characters that fill this book with the realities of life. This is a wonderfully touching story that I highly recommend.

Fated to be Together...

Gray Baldwin is a lost soul who craves a stable home life with a woman and a family to cherish and to be loved back. As a child, he didn't have these things but as an adult he's determined to forget his lonely past. When he meets the Hanwells, he believes he may have a chance.
Hope Hanwell is a spoiled daughter who sets her eyes on Gray for purposes she doesn't even know herself. She thinks she only wants a summer fling with him before going off to college, but there's something about Gray that pulls at her heart.

Both have a past that haunts them, but in each other's arms they find solace, but in the light of day uncertainties cloud their judgments. Gray learns the past can't be ignored when an old friend shows up to threaten all his dreams.

Ms. Pike never disappoints. She has penned a tale of heartbreak, hopes and dreams, while fate's hand guides the way. Your heart will go out to Gray, wishing you could give him a hug. Hope is spoiled, but she's young and has a lot to learn. You see the potential of the woman she could be and root for her to find her way. I also recommend The Winds of Autumn and Waiting for the Rain.

Warning: You'll need a Kleenex for this story.

‘M. Jean Pike Unplugged’

In her latest effort, M. Jean Pike pulls out all the stops, delivering a tale of hope and heartbreak that leaves the reader spent. With her trademark insight of the good and evil that cohabits the human heart, Ms. Pike chronicles the lives of two lost souls from two very different worlds, at once driven together by destiny and torn apart by fate. By far her most intense work to date, In the Shadow of the Dragonfly is as raw as it is rich, and is unflinching in its portrayal of humanity at its best and worst. Without question a master work, if you read no other book by M. Jean Pike, I implore you to read this one.

***** Five Stars….

Gray Baldwin was born into poverty and neglect. After losing his prostitute mother at the age of eight, he’s given into the custody of his first foster mother. Gladdy teaches Gray the true meaning of love, home and family. Despite the many pitfalls in his life, he never forgets those lessons and clings to his dreams of finding true love with a home and family of his own to belong to. When he meets Hope and her family, he believes he’s found what he’s been looking for his entire life.

Beautiful and spoiled, Hope Hanwell has never wanted for anything, at least on the surface. She’s never known her mother and bears the heavy weight of guilt for a later tragedy on her young shoulders. Hope has her flaws and is, at first, not very likable, but the author offers deeper insight and the reader gets a glimpse of the lovely person she could become. Hope wants Gray, but with nothing more serious in mind than a summer fling and has no idea how drastically their love affair will affect her life.

A literary love story, yes, but In The Shadow Of The Dragonfly by awarding winning author M. Jean Pike is much more than that. Through the lives of the very real people living within it’s pages, this story allows the reader to examine the pain, heartbreak, love, and hope that dwells within the hearts and minds of all mankind. With great strength and courage these characters overcome heartache and tragedy, moving on with their lives and forging a better tomorrow for future generations. In The Shadow Of The Dragonfly touched me on an emotional level seldom felt and I know these characters will live in my heart for a very long time. I can’t remember ever having read a more satisfying story and highly recommend it to all.
