Mizu Tama Dojo

Kosho Hoho Yooga; Serving the NH Seacoast Since 1999

Kosho Hoho Yooga is an art of study

Do you have the commitment; the drive; the will to go where seldom even dare to tread? If your answer is yes, then look no further.

Kosho Hoho Yooga and its components are arts of study. They are not arts of sport or competition, nor of re-enactment. It means the study of Natural Law supersedes set forms, set ways. This is the old way warriors studied. Warrior's study with the encouragement to think; not act mindlessly like robots doing what they were told without thought of consequence.

These systems taught are rare and controversial.

The Mizu Tama Dojo takes an "old school" approach to training. Training is hard and demanding; the outcome is a better trained, more complete/ well-rounded individual. Students of the Mizu Tama Dojo are warriors/ warrior-healers/ wizard warriors, able to think and act for themselves, unlike soldiers who have limited understanding and react rather than act. Our standards and expectations are high, higher than the commercial schools in the region. The difference is we produce real warriors; they hand out black belts.

If you want the edge- train with us! Nothing less will do.

Many apply, few are accepted.

The Mizu Tama Dojo, a private school for martial arts training. As a private school, unlike commercial schools, the Mizu Tama Dojo interviews all candidate's applications for training and accepts only the most dedicated into it's training programs. Only those candidates who possess commitment, a desire to learn the complete art of Kosho Hoho Yooga, an ability to put the ego aside and train in a manner to improve one's self in body, mind and spirit, and lastly the foresight to see that real martial arts isn't just hitting or kicking, will be taken on as students.

The Mizu Tama Dojo provides equal opportunity in education and training without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability.

Those interested in attending the Mizu Tama Dojo are requested to contact the school and set up a time to meet with a staff member and have a personal interview with Christopher J. Bashaw, soke (603-781-8348 master_tenbu@yahoo.com ).

Kosho Hoho Yooga taijutsu (which is a combative martial art, not a martial sport) is a unique blending of tai chi and kosho ryu kempo concepts of natural law. Training includes not only martial application, but healing arts, chi building, shamanic practice; balancing body, mind and spirit. This hybrid blend brings the teachings of the Japanese warrior monk of 1235 AD into the 21st century, producing warrior healers and wizard warriors. This non-tournament style martial arts practice is a discipline based on the ancient traditional martial training concepts. Kosho Hoho Yooga is acknowledged by Yodansha International and Budo Ryu Ninjutsu Federation, as well as the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Kosho Hoho Yooga is a strong supporter of Washin International.

Who is Rev. Christopher J. Bashaw, PhD/MA, DD, RN, Soke?

Kosho Hoho Yooga is an American eclectic Martial Art, developed by Christopher Bashaw, soke, Family Head. Kosho Hoho Yooga, or "Old Pine Tree Method of Unity and Self Discipline", a martial blending of Kosho Ryu Kempo and Tai Chi. Kosho Hoho Yooga takes the traditional conceptual teachings of the Japanese Warrior Monk of 1235 AD (true self-defense, healing, and spiritual arts) and makes it applicable for the 21st century. Christopher holds black belt ranking in Shaolin Kempo Karate, Mugei-Mumei no Jitsu, as well as certification in Yang style Tai Chi. He was awarded his Hachidan (8th degree black belt) from the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio in 2006. In January 2007 Christopher was inducted into Action Magazine Martial Arts Hall of Fame. And in June of 2008 Bashaw was inducted into the World Karate Union as “Founder of the Year”.  Christopher has been a Registered Nurse for over 2 decades, including pediatrics, military, pain care, recovery room, occupational health, drug and alcohol recovery, insurance case management, and rehabilitation. And over the last 20 years he has become certified as a Reiki Master/Teacher, developing his own system, Kokoro Ryu Reiki System of Natural Healing, and given permission in his lineage by Laura Grant, RMT to proceed with that system; Christopher is also the founder of Shugendo Yoga, a spiritual, gentle healing form of yoga which is done by Kosho Hoho Yooga-ka as well as students outside the system; he has taken vows as a Buddhist Priest and now practices and teaches Universal Buddhism as part of his curriculum. He holds a Doctorate in Divinity as well as a PhD/MA and the title of Professor. He incorporates western herbalism, internal and external Chi Kung healing, and Shamanism into his practice and the art of Kosho Hoho Yooga. He developed Koshonic Body Stress Release © and is now teaching it privately to select students who are opening their own successful practices. Bashaw is also a renowned psychic and medical intuitive, working both independently as well as with New England Curiosities. Christopher is available for private readings and sessions. Christopher is a founding member of WaShin International. Bashaw, soke, is also a CNFT(Certified Natural Fitness Trainer).

Kosho Hoho Yooga students are considered to be warrior healers and wizard warriors; in fact they tend to be more shaman's who happen to do the martial arts, than martial artists who do healing or chi work.

Five Area students receive Blackbelt Certification in Rare Martial Art

What does a phlebotomist, retired housewife and RN, school teacher, occupational therapist, and herbalist have in common? They recently tested for blackbelt/ instructor status in Kosho Hoho Yooga (KHY).

On March 29th, 2008 in Rochester, NH Dianne Mros of Farmington, NH, Deeann Hassen of Madbury, NH, Ruth Ashley of Barnstead, NH, and Jacquie Watson of Rochester NH met and passed the testing requirements for Tai Chi for Health Instructor- Level 1 within the KHY system. Before a board of black belts from around New England these women demonstrated their ability to teach through their knowledge of the KHY forms as well as through discussions of theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, anatomy and physiology of the ancient energy systems, martial and healing implications of the postures within the KHY forms, philosophy and history of the system, and how this applies to illness, dis-ease, and wellness. Though certification itself is not an actual blackbelt, it is the equivalence to a blackbelt within the KHY system, treated with the same expectation and privileges of a blackbelt in turn allowing these individuals to conduct tai chi training independently in their own classes and schools; additionally they were presented with the title of shisho (instructor).

Tai chi has been supported by the Arthritis Foundation, MS Foundation as well as numerous clinical studies which show regular practice of this slow, dance-like exercise and moving meditation lowering blood pressure, improving the immune function, improving strength and balance, decreasing pain, and burning calories an a low impact manner. The healing effects of this style of tai chi and its practice were confirmed by the students, one commenting on his improvement with its application related to a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis and one student 73 years young.

Testing along side these women, Robert Rickard of Rochester, NH tested for his Nidan (Second Degree Blackbelt) within the KHY sytem. Mr Rickard, already a senei (teacher) of the system with students in his Rochester and Berwick, ME programs, demonstrated 10 tai chi forms from the system, combat application, philosophy, and concepts before the testing board.

Kosho Hoho Yooga (Old Pine Tree Method of Unity and Self Discipline), the complete system, extends beyond the requirements of the Tai Chi for Health certification to include a stronger aspect of training in the mind body connection through applications of martial combat, various other healing techniques and a sense of personal deep spiritual growth. The curriculum of KHY is based off of the studies of the Japanese warrior monks of 1235 AD; and through the more recent teachings of James M. Mitose who brought Kempo, specifically Kosho Ryu Kempo from Japan to the United States. History of the KHY system can be found on it main website at http://www.freewebs.com/kosho_hoho_yooga .
