Early Childhood Department
PAC Meeting Minutes
April 14, 2008 - 10:30 AM
Parents In Attendance: Sharon Levine & Jennifer Reamer
For the JCC Staff: Rhya Jerrold & Robin Fontanetta
Committee Updates:
- Book Fair- The Spring Book fair was a success. We met our fund-raising sales goals. The Early Childhood Department thanked both the parents who shopped, and the parents and seniors who volunteered. Our new volunteer coordinator was instrumental in helping us staff our fair.
- Yearbook- The committee has finished the yearbook and has sent it off to the publishing company. There are still some 4's who have not ordered yearbooks yet. We still have time for additional purchases. We will be setting up a table at Family Fun Day on May 4th to accept pre-orders. The committee worked quite hard on the yearbook this year, and the Early Childhood Department thanked them for their efforts.
-Bagels & Books- The family literacy event was held on Sunday, March 30, 2008. The committee did a wonderful job on both book and project selections, and the feedback on this free family event was great! This is such a successful event year after year.
-Teacher Appreciation- The luncheon this year is scheduled for May 14th. The committee has started planning and working on this event. The teachers appreciate their luncheon every year, and the Early Childhood Department is working with the committee to determine the most useful gift that can be presented to the department in a show of appreciation. If you are interested in assisting this committee, please contact Shari Fontana or Robin (x 341).
Fund-raising Event Updates:
-Note Cards- We concluded our note card fundraiser. The finished products will be received back by the JCC in the next two weeks. This year we only offered black and ivory note cards and there was a suggestion to look into options for colored picture or card choices for next year.
-Camp Labels- We finished our camp label fundraiser as well. We found a company that makes labels for both items and clothing, with options from stick-on to iron-on. The finished labels are due back by the JCC in time to distribute them in mid-May, leaving plenty of time to label all camp stuff!
-Flower-Seedling Sale- We have decided to put this fundraiser off until next year. We will be looking into available options, tentatively planning on trying a sale around Mothers Day for the upcoming school year. More details will follow at PAC meetings next year.

Open Discussion:
Our meeting came to a close with a conversation about offering a toddler orientation meeting at the beginning of next school year. The toddler parent in attendance felt there might be merit to having an "introduction to the year" meeting in September. It was also suggested by the parents in attendance that there should be an orientation meeting for class mothers at the beginning of the year, outlining more specifically the responsibilities and expectations. The Early Childhood Department will be taking these suggestions under advisement, and will try to assess overall interest in these type of meetings for next year.
Next PAC meeting: Monday, May 19 @ 7:15 PM. All are welcome to attend!!!
