Mitchell Computers became a registered business in Feb 2004 but I have been working with computers regularly since 1992. My main focus is internet security and I have extensive experience with virus/malware removal and preventative measures. I am familiar with all of the tools required to detect/remove/prevent infections and I ensure that I am always up to date with the most current methods of dealing with new infections. I am also familiar with the programs that claim to be legitimate but are really malware themselves...don't be fooled, there are many of them. Internet security is not something to take lightly. Anyone who has ever been infected with a virus or other malware knows how difficult it can be to remove the infection and get your computer running normally once again. It can be very frustrating and time consuming to get the proper protection in place and keep everything up to date but the alternatives can be much worse. Identity theft, stolen passwords, pop ups, system slowdowns, system crashes and expensive repair bills are all too common. A layered approach should be taken to ensure you are covered effectively. Everyone should be using a firewall that monitors both incoming and outgoing traffic (the Windows XP firewall truly is inadequate). You should also use an antivirus program and at least one antimalware program. There are many free programs available for home use, there is no need to purchase such software. The versions for home users receive the same updates that the paid versions receive. The paid versions simply offer automatic updates, more frequent updates and technical support. Using one program and hoping it removes all infections is not the best method, in fact it's quite a poor method. It's well known that no one program can detect and/or remove every infection. While I can recommend several excellent programs that are freely available to the public, I have access to other programs that allow me to obtain a clearer picture of exactly what is installed on a computer (and when it was installed) so that I can completely remove all traces of infections. If you suspect that your computer has become infected and you can't correct the problem yourself, please contact me ASAP.
