Yugi Moto is no ordinary kid. He has been chosen by destiny to weild the great powers of the Millenium Puzzle. He is accompanied by the spirit of the puzzle, Yami. Yugi was trained by his grandpa in dueling. He beat the world champion Seto Kaiba, and in Duellist Kingdom he beat Pegasus, the creator of Duel Monsters. He saved Kaiba in his Virtual Pod Game and he beat Duke Devlin in his own game, Dungeon Dice Monsters. In Battle City he has dueled many of Marik's rare hunters. He beat Rare Hunter, Arkana, Strings, the Gurus Duo, and Umbra and Lumis. After defeating Umbra and Lumis with Kaiba he explained to Kaiba who Marik was and the events that took place 5000 years ago, but Kaiba didn't beleive any of this. Later Yugi is forced to duel Joey. Yugi uses his Puzzle to free Joey from Marik's control. The duel ends in a stalemate and both Yugi and Joey were re-united. They both arrive at the Battle City Finals, and Yugi meets Namu(Marik) there. Tea introduces him. When Bakura arrives, Yugi is suspicious of the evil spirit of the ring still controling him. The Battle City Finals take place in a blimp 4000 ft in the sky. Yugi's first opponent is Bakura, and Yugi wins by summoning Slifer the Sky Dragon. After Ishizu lost to Kaiba, she gave Yugi the Millenium Ring. After the blimp was taken over by Noa, Yugi was forced to enter the Virtual World again. He battled Deep Sea Warrior there and beat him. He then battled with Joey against the Big Five and won. Yugi then took over for Seto against Noa. Yugi was able to summon Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and win the duel. Yugi left the Virtual World with all his friends to continue the Battle City Finals. In the four way duel, Seto and he were able to survive the longest, so they duelled each other in the second round. The two God cards, Slifer and Obelisk, faced off, but the two duellists later used different monsters. Yugi was able to summon his Black Paladin and defeat Seto's Blue-Eyes. Yugi then got Obelisk. Yugi that duelled Yami Marik for the final round. Yugi was able to summon Slifer and Obelisk, but they were no match for the Winged Dragon of Ra. Slifer was defeated, but Yugi sacraficed Obelisk and another monster to summon his Dark Magcian. The combined powers of the Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl then destroyed the Winged Dragon of Ra. Yami Marik was weakened, so the real Marik took control and forfeited the duel. Yugi became the Battle City champion, holding all three God cards. Now the three God cards have been stolen by the Doom Orginization and Yugi must win them back.
