Joey Wheeler is Yugi's best friend. He used to be a horrible duelist but Yugi and his Grandpa helped him. Before Duelist Kingdom he got a message from his younger sister, Serenity. She told him that she would soon be totally blind. With Yugi's help he got into Duelist Kingdom. Yugi also gave him Time Wizard. He came in second at duelist kingdom after losing to Yugi. But Yugi gave Joey the three million dollar prize money, and was able to pay for Serenity's operation. His rarest card used to be Red-Eyes Black Dragon but he lost it in his duel in Battle City with a rare hunter. Yugi won it back but Joey let Yugi keep it. In Battle City he beat Espa Roba, Weevil, and Mako. He arned Jinzo, Insect Queen, The Legendary Fisherman, and Fortress Whale, but also got the Parasite Paracide card that Weevil stuck in his deck. Serenity cheers him on wherever he is. Since he had all six locator cards needed to enter the Battle City Finals he decides to head for them but he is kidnapped on the way by a group of rare hunters. Marik takes over him and forces him to duel Yugi. Yugi finds Joey ready to duel him, but Marik fills Joey's head with thoughts of hatred about Yugi. Yugi was able to pull through and use his Puzzle to free Joey. They then both headed to the Battle City Finals. On their way there, Joey helped Mai escape an actor named Magnum. During the finals, Joey's first opponent is Marik. Joey doesn't know this, but his opponent isn't Marik, but Odion. Joey beat Odion, and later tries to help Mai, while she was dueling the real Marik, but he failed and she was sent to the shadow realm. Later, he went into the Virtual World. There he defeated Judge Man. He and Yugi later defeated all the Big Five. After they escaped, he, Yugi, Seto, and Yami Marik had a four way duel. Joey and Yami Marik lost, forcing them to duel each other in round two. Joey was about to win the duel with Gearfried, but he fainted causing him to lose. He later duelled Seto too, but lost. Now he is being hunted the the Doom Orginization.
