Graduation 07 Ceremony

Recognition By Carbonear Town Councillors

Kristi was honoured for her many achievements, both inside and outside cadets, at this
weeks town council meeting. Mayor Slade read a list of all her awards and
achievements which astounded the councillors of Carbonear. She was congratulated on
receiving the Sir Leonard C. Outerbridge award from 2006-2007. In the 54 year history
of cadets in Carbonear, the award was only won here twice (1974-Bill Saunders and
1977-Gary Saunders). Mayor Slade& councillors were very proud to have it back in
Carbonear after 30 years! At the council meeting, Kristi publically announced her next
endeavor to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House to ensure that the occupants of
the "house" this Christmas have their burden lightened in some small way. She will
hopefully receive the support she has sought from school principalsin our area to help
make her plan a reality.Meanwhile, she remains extremely busy with Remembrance
Day activities, playing for weddings, teaching piano, assignments, and 6 tests at
university in 7 days!

Canada Day Award

Kristi receives the Canada Day Youth Award 2007 from Mayor Sam Slade and Mr. Gary Laing, Pres. RCL Branch 23

Earlier this year, Mr. Gary Laing of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23 nominated Kristi for the Canada Day Youth Award for 2007. Her extensive leadership, volunteerism, and dedication to her community and to Canada resulted in her being selected as a recipient for this very prestigious award. This award is usually presented in a ceremony on Canada Day, however Kristi was slated to be on-route to CFB Greenwood for employment on July 1st. Instead, on June 29th, she was treated to a presentation by Mayor Sam Slade and Mr. Gary Laing in the mayor’s chambers. The Canada Day Youth Award is given to a young person who exemplifies the qualities of citizenship that strengthen our nation. Kristi was very honoured to have been selected as this year’s recipient and says that this honour is at the top, or certainly very near the top, of her biggest accomplishments
