    Explanation of Judging Criteria

Interview/Personality - Interviews are conducted panel style. 'Panel style'
is similar to a press conference. Contestants will introduce themselves and
field questions posed by the panel of judges. The interview focuses primarily
on the contestants' personal information (hobbies, ambition, etc.) but may
include opinion questions that require general knowledge of social and
    current events.

Academics - As part of the judging criteria, contestants are required to
complete an academic test which focuses on Newfoundland and Labrador
    history, geography and current affairs.

Fitness - As part of the judging criteria, contestants are required to complete
a fitness test which is conducted by qualified fitness instructors at a
recognized fitness centre, as well as a short written quiz on healthy living.

On Stage Introduction - This is the portion of the competition where
contestantsintroduce themselves and thank their sponsors. They are
judged on confidence, poise and personality.

Evening Gown - Each contestant is evaluated on grace, poise, fashion
sense, grooming, stage presence and personality.

Speech - In the application package, contestants are asked: "If you are
selected for this title, what platform or issue will you speak on throughout the
year?" The public speaking portion of the competition is an opportunity for
you to present your platform to the audience. Speeches should be no longer
    than two (2) minutes.

Impromptu Question - The Top 4 finalists will respond to a final question
based on information provided in their pageant applications.
