Kristi is an 18 year old, 1st Year Memorial University. 
 

Talets:
She is currently completing Grade 9 Piano for the Royal Conservatory of Music
under her own instruction, and has won awards in poetry and math competitions.

 

Accomplishments: 

- One of only 2 cadets from NL to be selected to receive the International
  Air Cadet Exchange trip and traveled to the Netherlands where she acted
  as a youth ambassador for our country.

 

- Attended; Senior Leaders Course, the top Air Cadet course in Canada in
  Cold Lake, Alberta in 2005, Introduction to Instruction Course in 2004 and
  Musician Course in 2003 in Greenwood, NS.
 

 

- Air Cadet Awards:

  * The Lord Strathacona Medal,

  * The Eric Chubbs Memorial Scholarship

  *The Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence,

  *The Air Cadet Service Medal,

  *Top Cadet for 2005-07,

  *Best Dressed Cadet for 2005-07,

  *Top Fundraiser each year from 2002 to 2007,

  *Best in Band 2004

  *100% Perfect Attendance for all cadet meetings, activities, and outings each
   year from 2002 to the present.

  *While at Cold Lake in 2005, earned the position of Lynx Squadron Deputy
   Commander for the graduation parade. 

  *Completed all the requirements for the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Level Award
   with the exception of the 4-day journey,
which she hopes to complete as soon
   as opportunity permits.

  *Selected for a staff position at CFB Greenwood this summer.

- Regional winner for the Effective Speaking Competition in 2005 and 2006 & 
  placed 6th in NL overall in 2005.

- Winner of the 2007 Canada Day Youth Award

 

- Honoured at the House of Assembly in May 2006 for her many accomplishments
  and community service.

- Recieved 2 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal in her weight class for wrestling. 

 

- As well she was one of 30 national finalists for the Canadian Morehead
  Scholarship earlier this year, and 

 

- Was one of only 4 provincial finalists for the very prestigious Terry Fox

  Humanitarian Award valued at $28,000.00 which was awarded in June.

 

Volunteer Work:

-Volunteer band instructor with her Air Cadet squadron on Sunday afternoons for the past
  3 years.

 

-She organizes her squadron’s participation each year in “Cadets Caring for Canada”
  & has been fortunate to be 
 

 

- Volunteer counselor at Burry Heights Youth Camp for the past 2 summers.

- Participates annually in the Terry Fox Walk, the 30 Hour Famine, & the Parkinson’s
  Society Walk.

 

- She was also a volunteer at the 2006 NL Special Olympics Winter Games and

- The Support Our Troops Concert just a couple of months ago.

 

- Favorite charitable activity is fundraising for the Royal Canadian Legion and she has
   been the top fundraiser for Branch 23 in Carbonear for the past 5 years, personally
   selling over 1500 hot dinners in her community. She also volunteers at Legion special
   events and dinners and is looking forward to becoming a member of the organization.

Pageants:
-In March she competed in the Miss Teen Achievement Pageant and placed 2
nd
Runner-Up overall and 1st Runner-Up for the Talented Teen for NL 2007.
As well, she was awarded the VOCM Cares Foundation Charitable Activities Scholarship. 

 

- In September Kristi was a participant in the Miss Newfoundland & Labrador Pageant

 

Career Goal:
"To become an Engineer.' She has been accepted into the Faculty of Engineering at
3 universities and has received scholarship offers for academics and leadership at
each one. She is currently attending Memorial.
 

 

Kristi lists her passions as :
Cadets, playing and teaching piano, wrestling, public speaking, and the Royal Canadian
Legion. 

 

Her pet peeves:
Racism, mean people, and favoritism.

 

Her goal is, " to become a mentor for young people, especially young women, seeking a
professional career and, most of all, to make a positive difference in the world."
